Well, just as I was thinking that I would class up soon, I was told that I would have to take IT Grad Courses online for 6 months. The downside is that I won't be back in the pipeline for 6 months!!! The upside is that Grad School is all that you do!!! I was wondering if anyone here is in this program now, and if you could talk about your experiences with it? Also, they did not mention anything about which school is offering the classes. Could someome post a link to the courses available? Thanks in advance.

I'm starting this program soon. How has it been going for you? Any advice/general information that would be good to know?
Thanks

Hey joe, where are you staying for ISO? My wife and I are on the list for base housing in Milton (shorter wait list plus I already have orders for Milton for primary).

I'm doing the same thing and report 18 JUN. Here's the link: http://online.nps.navy.mil/vu_programs/iso_info.htm

The classes are through the Naval Postgraduate school in Monterey. They are ony a certification course in Information Systems and Operations (ISO). According to our NROTC LT, the Navy is using this as an experiment in online course instruction and asked for volunteers from the three main warfare groups (subs, surface, aviation). I talked to a guy a year ahead of me who was comissioned out of my unit and he said the courses were not too difficult. Some of it was just doctrine and strategy and the other stuff was practical IT like hooking up and running networks. He said that if you keep up with the readings you shouldn't have a problem. He also told me that there was no mustering and the only person you are accountible to is yourself to finish the classwork on time. Zilber, they are making you do this? We were allowed to volunteer. I chose it since 1) Six months of doing nothing but grad school (I do have to complete IFS concurrently, though). 2) I'd probably get stashed for a couple months before API anyhow and this way I'd have something to show for it. 3) According to the website, I can choose to attend the NPS later down in my career and get the Masters in ISO (which would be good since I already have a MA in history and this would balance it with something practical). 4) We were told that we could choose our primary location and would get preference over non-ISO people. I'm not counting on this 100% since we were also told that were going to be able to do IFS in the T-34 as another reward (why did I believe that? Naive Ensign syndrom I guess.)

SFA Gray, I'm staying on the BOQ for a week or two until I find something off base. We were not authorized house hunting leave after commissioning and I was not about to go into the leave hole to find an apartment. Your situation is probably different since you are married. Maybe that's why you already have follow-on orders to Whiting for primary, I don't know of anyone else that has those. What is your report date for primary? I was told we would start API in Janurary 2005.

Red2, my follow on orders have API starting in January '05, no specific start date. My "ultimate duty station" is Whiting Field w/ TRAWING 5 until 03-2006 (interesting). I asked my LT about that and he said that sometimes primary can take a year to finish due to bad weather days.

Actually, our class was cancelled, and I started API right away. I am now in Primary enjoying the T-34C!!! :)
