Amazing story and it reinforces my telling young students, "It ain't over till it's over and fly it right through the crash. You'll be a amazed at what you can do if you perservere."
+1 to all involved

So, you just overcame a potential catastrophic outcome with some good communication, a can-do attitude, a hell of a lot of luck, and some quick thinking...then you decide to potentially put yourself right back in the same situation with a makeshift repair (and everyone agrees)?

Hmmm...am I missing something?

Yeah, I kinda had the same reaction to that part, but they made it back OK and the pilot did ORM it, telling the PAX to watch the connection and he was prepared to put it on the ground right away. It beat a long walk through the snow, I guess...

It reminds me of what a Maj told me when as a young Capt who overtemp'd/oversped an engine on his HAC check, through no fault of my own and wanted to fly back to the boat - as a HAC it's your job to get it on the deck. Let the squadron (company) figure it out past that.
