Looks like the Gray Eagle and his mustache will not be taking command of PACOM. CNO seems to have politely observed that Admiral Swift's services are no longer required.

Question on this, wouldn't there be some admiral having to retire? If there were several in the running what about the ones that aren't picked, wouldn't they retire as well?
Not necessarily an Admiral - PACOM is a joint post. While it has been the PACFLT fleet up job as of late, any service can hold the post.
I wouldn't trust Gertz with my loose change, he also sees a conspiracy behind every corner.
I seriously doubt there’s anything more sinister at work here than the dreaded “optics”. Promoting the PacFlt commander to PACOM when several subordinates have been fired just looks bad.
That author seems jumpy to conclusions. CCDRs don’t make policy. CCDRs provide military options to NCA and then execute the selected option(s). CDR USPACOM can’t soften or harden the U.S. stance on a country in that AOR, regardless of personal views.
