Not necessarily an Admiral - PACOM is a joint post. While it has been the PACFLT fleet up job as of late, any service can hold the post.Question on this, wouldn't there be some admiral having to retire? If there were several in the running what about the ones that aren't picked, wouldn't they retire as well?
That author seems jumpy to conclusions. CCDRs don’t make policy. CCDRs provide military options to NCA and then execute the selected option(s). CDR USPACOM can’t soften or harden the U.S. stance on a country in that AOR, regardless of personal views.
