I took the astb for the second time today. I got a 4/5/5 OAR 43. I got an OAR 43 the last time. The mechanical and reading killed me again. I took version 5 and the mechanical covered mostly calculating force and other things that the Barrons book didnt cover. I wanted to get pilot but i dont think that is going to happen. I am hoping I can get supply with that, maybe intel. My I have a bachelors degre in operations management and supply chain management with a gpa of 2.5.

You've still got one more shot. Check out the Arco book, Marine gouge guides, maybe enroll in a Masters program to get a few courses down to offset your GPA--take your time (if you're not up against the age ceiling) and make your last round count. Or pack it in and chalk it up to too much Top Gun when you were young. My .02.

Some people just aren't cut out to be a pilot. I'm not trying to be mean or discourage you. But in my opinion - it's a test that's designed to pick out the best people for the job. You can't say "well they didn't ask me that last time" and expect any sympathy. There's a reason they look for engineers. Sometimes figuring things out is more than just memorizing what a book tells you - there has to be some instinct and common sense and a general knowledge background to pull from. Despite the fact that you take systems classes and other classes while in flight school - I'd say you need to be more educated than that to REALLY figure out what's going on with the aircraft. Some people don't need that technical background...but I'm sure the test is designed to figure out who has the aptitude to figure it out.

Again, not being mean, but it's better to figure out now than during Primary that this just isn't your natural ability.

Mike, I scored poorly the first time I took the ASTB. I studied for 6 weeks straight and did much better the next time around. You just need to study the ARCO books, every day until you take the next test. My advice is to do each problem taking as much time as you need so you understand it. When you can complete one of those tests in the ARCO books with no time limit and understand how you came up with each answer, start taking the tests in the ARCO books and apply the time limits. I have a business degree and a lot of the stuff didn't come easy for me either, it just takes persistence and drive. If this is what you want, put everything you have into it and go for it. Shrug off those who tell you aviation isn't for you. My recruiter laughed in my face when he found out I had an online business degree. Who's laughing now? You've got one more shot. Strap it up, its go time. Good luck.

At some point...someone has to tell you the truth or you have to discover it yourself.

2.5 GPA? Really? How much drive and determination does that show?

I'm sorry to be the downer here - but flight school is tough. They're looking for the best of the best (name that movie).

There is something inside certain people that drives them to ALWAYS do their best. The over-achievers. The ones who put in the extra effort even when it's not called for (or something isn't being graded). And those people are the ones who cruise right through the acceptance process and become the pilots. The ones who "squeak by", are the ones who down mulitple flights, and blow tests, and can't make aircraft commander. Most people struggle with something....but this is awful early for you to be struggling already.
