I’m currently a college sophomore with a 3.96 average. I am on the premed route but I have always wanted to be a pilot from a young age. I am aware of how competitive becoming a pilot is. I have been doing some research and I came across this forum and I’m wondering what advice anyone here might have?

If you really want to be a naval aviator, then by all means keep researching and doing all the things you need to do to become competitive and apply. Lots of threads on this forum about the application process, what is competitive, and what a career as a NA looks like. If you just want to fly in general, I imagine that as a doctor you'll probably be able to afford to do it as a hobby.

Head over to the nearest flight school and ask for an exploratory, or introduction to flying, flight. Some people know right away that they love it or hate it. Others simply see the utility in it and keep going. From there you can take the next steps.

3.96 is great. Keep that as high as you can. GPA is a big factor in getting picked up.

Does your school have an NROTC program or are you primarily considering the OCS route after you graduate?

It isn't that hard to get selected if you have a good ASTB, if you get triple 7's on the ASTB with that GPA and no waivers you could be an immediate select. The harder part is making it through everything after selection. Don't get hurt, and don't do anything stupid then you should be fine.

Welcome aboard. “Advice for aspiring and student Naval Aviators” is about half what this site is about. The other half is mostly old farts like myself bitching about the Navy, but that’s useful too in its way. As the others have said, you’ve got a good GPA, next step is knocking the ASTB out of the park, then applying for an officer program. As you’re still a sophomore, a two-year ROTC scholarship might be an option if your school has a unit, as well as OCS once you’ve graduated. There are sub-sections for all of those here on AWs. The stickied threads in particular have a lot of good stuff.

Best of luck to you, if you have any specific questions as you go, ask away.
