Hi guys,

I looked for a post on this topic, but could not find one so forgive me if I missed it.

------------------
In regard to the actual path from OCS,

For Navy:
OCS
General FS
Aircraft Specific FS
Deployment

For the Marines:
OCS
Basic School (or is this part of their OCS?)
General FS
Aircraft Specific FS
Deployment

Additionally, what is the average rank leaving FS, O-1 or O-2 (Navy and Marine)?

Thank ya'll so much for any help! :)

I don't see too many question marks in your post, so I am not sure if you are asking questions or posting info. I will assume the former.

On the Navy side general training is:

Commissioning Source (e.g. OCS, USNA, NROTC, other)
Flight School aka "General FS"
API
Primary
Advanced
FRS (RAG) aka "Aircraft Specific FS"
Operational Unit

Your rank leaving flight school is heavily dependant on which program you are in.

Marine Side:

Commissioning Source (PLC, OCC, USNA)
TBS (6 months, not part of OCS)
API
Primary
Advanced
FRS
Operational Unit

-most Marines, due to the length of time required to actually get to flight school, are O-2s at winging. Some may be O-3s.

Alright, thanks alot for clearing that up! I was having trouble finding anything solid.

And, I was suppose I was unclear whether that was a giant question...

Now for another question, what is API?

Thanks again!

API is Aviation Pre-Flight Idoctrination. 6 weeks of academics, physiology and basic land/water survival prior to starting primary. Both SNAs and SNFOs take the same course.

Basically: Intro to Aerodynamics, Weather, Engines & Systems, Navigation and Flight Rules & Regulations. You then do basic physiology: effects of acceleration, hypoxia, etc on the body during flight. After that, basic first aid and CPR, life raft stuff, pressure chamber, helo dunker and basic parachute training. If you're a SNFO (or SNA going to Vance) you get basic ejection seat training. During the academics, you have a bunch of swim stuff to do: tread & float in full gear, mile swim in flight suit, 75 yd. survival swim in full gear, and tower jump & under water swim in flightsuit and boots.

Hope that helps.

Aviation Preflight Indoctrination

(It's a kind of general ground school. You learn basic aerodynamics, aviation physiology, engines, navigation, survival skills, and survival equipment.)

If you search through old threads, you'll find a goldmine of information. The Required Reading section has a lot of jewels with this kind of stuff too! :)

Best Luck and Happy Posting,

Eddie

EDIT: see the two posts above...

Thanks again guys, I have been perusing the forum and "best threads" section for about a week now, and this is definitely the best resource I have found on the web.
