Hmm, anyone seen any mole hills around here?
I might have a problem with us calling it the Arabian Gulf if we were the only ones who do so, but we aren't. The entire western side of the gulf calls it the Arabian Gulf. The Iran calls it the Persian Gulf. We happen to be friends, more or less in some cases, with the Arab states so we'll call it what they call it. Nothing more, nothing less.
Unfortunately people ascribe way too much power to the United States. So we call it one thing, you don't like it? Call it what you want. I'm fairly certain If one person says Persian Gulf and the other says Arabian, we'll all know what we're talking about. There was a comment on the facebook page that equated the Navy calling it the Arabian Gulf to "verbal genocide." You've got to be kidding me. Genocide? Because we call it something else? Talk about over emotionally charged language.
All I really know at the end of the day is that I have spent way too much time flying over the Arabian Gulf to give one crap what it is actually called.
