Deeply thinking about joining the marine corps but got a couple questions. i have a screw in my ankle. Its been there for about 4 years. I can run, jump and do anything on it but not sure what the recruiter will think about it. also, i only have a GED

I didn't see a question anywhere in there. I hope for your sake the normal bandwagon doesn't come this way to roll over you. Take some time to look around, read what is already here, think about what you want to do in the USMC/military....and then try again if you still have questions.

sorry, my question was is having a screw in my ankle going to make my chances of joining the marines doubtful?

we capitalize marine corps, marines, and usmc.

in all fairness, he didn't capitalize anything. In order to make up for his mistake, i'll type my entire post in caps.

EDIT: IT WON'T LET ME POST ENTIRELY IN CAPS. SO, THAT'S INTERESTING.

Au Contraire, he capitalized GED; which is the most impressive part of his post!

Well thanks for almost helping me. And I'll be sure to capitalize Marines, USMC and Marine Corps from now on.

Ryan, insulting people on this board isn't going to help you. First and foremost, be a professional in everything you do. This starts here, at the most basic level.

Start off on these forums by introducing yourself and updating your profile to actually reflect who you are. Secondly, the best way to find out if that screw in your ankle is going to hurt you is to take a two pronged approach. First, talk to an officer recruiter. They'll be the first line in screening your application. Secondly, there's a forum here specifically for asking medical questions. There are some subject matter experts who would be more than willing to tackle your question, if asked in the right place and in the right manner. Look under "Naval Aviator's Forum" and subsection "Doc's Corner" for further guidance.

Best of luck to you, and don't hesitate to ask questions here. Just make sure that when you do ask a question, you do so in a professional manner.

Thank you very much. I appreciate any help I can get, I truly do. I did not mean to insult or offend anybody in anyway, and if I did, I'm sorry. Ill be sure to take your advice and speak to a recruiter about my ankle. Wish me luck! And again, thanks.

I don't see a problem with where it is at. He hasn't even talked to a recruiter yet and doesn't even know if a waiver is needed.

After he talks to a recruiter and finds out what is or is not needed, he can ask again if he feels like it. A recruiter and the answer is just a quick phone call away. Until then - closed.
