I was just wondering if any NA or NFO's (recuriters especially) think I have a shot. I know, everyong asks this, but I going to bite the bullet and follow the crowd.

B.S. Flight Operations and Aviation Management University of Dubuque, 3.77 GPA

ASTB 57/7/8/8

Commercial ASEL, Instrument rating Airplane (CFI, CFII, Com. AMEL, and MEI by June '06) 310 TT

LOR: Employers, Coach, and Aviation chair (former army LTCol and helo pilot)

Extra: CAP (transport mission pilot, training for scanner and mission pilot, ES officer); lots of volunteer work; active with college groups; did AFROTC for a semester before transferring to a school without AFROTC (was in honor guard and honor flight).

Thanks

What are you guys flying down at Purdue?

We got about 20 C-172Rs, 3 TB-20 Trinidads, 2 Seminoles. I wish we had something acrobatic (an extra 300L twin seat would be just great).

I hate to break it to you, but if MEI is not required, I wouldn't bother with it. It's expensive and if you make SNA, you won't instruct until you're out, which could be about 15 years from now or longer.

I'd say you're in good shape. Your package appears very similar to that of my own when I applied. See post #154:

http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1707&page=8

But remember, I just barely made it in...then again, you are at Dubuque and I'm at UND so maybe your chances aren't that good...j/k. BTW, we have 2 Super Decathlons and soon an Extra 300 will be leased to the school. Aerobatics is such a blast!

Don't worry about what Tom said. He's just bitter.....

Apply and see what happens. Good Luck!

Hey,

I'm sure your packet is exceptional.

I got a 56/7/8/8 on the ASTB
B.S. in Aeronautics with a 3.27 GPA from Parks College of Saint Louis University
Commercial AMEL, Instrument Airplane with 200 TT.

The scores on your ASTB are also exceptional. The average scores for the OAR is around the 40s and (believe it or not) the others are around 5-6. So, your ASTB scores are good.

The main thing that my recruiter pointed out was the LORs. He wanted me to make sure that I got as much brass behind me as possible (a Commander [former P-3 driver], and a Captain [former SWO] in my case). Get as many higher ranking officers as you can.

Good luck on your packet.

P.S. My recruiter pointed out to me recently that the Navy is apparantly screaming for Pilots and NFOs. So, already, with all of your aviation experience, you've got a good chance.

Who was your recruiter? It is tougher than ever to get into the Navy as a Pilot or NFO and letters from brass only count if they know you very well. DO NOT GET AS MANY HIGH RANKING OFFICIALS AS YOU CAN UNLESS THEY ALL KNOW YOU WELL.

As far as I can tell you have not been accepted, so why are you giving advice on things that have not even worked for you yet. Go do a search on Qualifications for Advice Giver Outer and take the test on what you qualify to give advice on; so far you can advise on ST Louis and Parks college, otherwise learn a bit more before you give advice on apps for your first post.

RockyMtnNFO,

I totally agree with you and, my apologies, I forgot to add that. The Commander was a former professor of mine and the Captain is a good family friend who got my brother (now an NFO with a RAG, VP-30) interested in the Navy. Make sure they know you well.

I am sorry to hear that your brother has a RAG, but glad that he is at VP-30. Tell him to have the rag looked at by a flight surgeon.

I understand your point, and you're right, it's not required, but I wouldn't necessarily agree you won't use it. My onwing in Primary was an MEI and was qual'ing other IPs in the squadron.

Again, I understand the point of your thread, just throwing out the extra info.

What Tom meant to say was that its expensive if you do it at UND. They give you a type rating in the Piper Seminole for your MEI ride...

I am going to need it if I stay civilian and fly for a career, only way to really build up the multi time. Plus if you want to do an intership with a company that flies you are going to need an MEI.

I am able to get so I am just going to do it. And yeah it will be cheaper than UND.

as long as you don't get your check ride with Joe Suarez...lol then you might want to put some more money into your account. jk

Sounds like somebody who had to take a checkride with him.

Yeah sounds like a stickler, but I haven't had to fly with him or have him in a class. But I know that I will have him for Applied Aerodynamics. OH Joy
