Waiting time for flight physical results - Marine OC

I have a flight physical scheduled for 24 Feb 07 at Pensacola. I've graduated college and completed OCS, so the result of the physical is the only thing I have left for commissioning on an NFO contract, and I'm very anxious to get this done as fast as possible. Does anyone have a good estimate of how long it takes to get the results? I've found mixed answers on various threads. I'll definitely need at least one waiver because I had PRK.

One of my friends was allowed to go to Wright-Patt AFB for his flight physical because P'cola is so backed up. Has anyone else been allowed to do go to an alternate place for a flight physical recently? I was told it takes longer to get results this way, but it would be nice to get a head start.

I went in November and I had my results back before I left. I had no waivers though. Also The Marines now only send you to P-Cola no where else...it's best to get the answers from the horses mouth AKA NAMI. Good-Luck and dont worry about it.

you'll know the results right away, and doing it in pensacola will make the paperwork go faster. It shouldn't take more than a week for your OSO to get all of the paperwork ready for your commissioning, although I'm not sure how long the PRK waiver takes to go through.

My OSO dispelled this myth... I went down to MCAS Miramar to get my flight physical. I received an appointment only a week or so in advance as well. If you have these kinds of facilities available to you take advantage of them. G/L.

Was this recently? This is what I'm hoping to find out. My friend went to Wright-Patt in November and just got results, which would have been great timing for me as well, but I'm being told he was an "exception." Of course I'd like to be an exception too, since this is the only thing delaying my commissioning.

^^ Yes, this was only a few months ago. However, it may be possible (given the times that the boards meet) that they are now only sending people to P-Cola... I went early to avoid having to do this. Your OSO should be able to clarify.

How does the flight physical work? I know I will get flown down to Pensacola for a few days, but how do I get around? Do I get a rental car or something? thanks

Hey, [Thread jack]In the Marines, do you get the physical that determines whether or not you are able to fly prior to commissioning? (Is this the "big physical" (I think called NAMI?) [/thread jack]

Why short cut it? If you want the REAL answer go to P-COLA? They are the end all be all of flight physicals. By going to MCAS Miramar, invertedflyer you only set your self up for the NAMI WAMMY, they will disregard all what Miramar did and do it all over again. Why chance it? As for you spitfiremkxiv go to NAMI and be glad you did why half A$$ it. What’s a few weeks in the big scheme of things?

No, You will have Sergeant drive you around, basically he is your chauffeur and tour guide while there. He also makes sure you get through NAMI as well. A good guy if it is the same one from this past November.

Yes, The Marines go to NAMI (Naval Aviation or Aerospace Medical Institute) before they are commissioned. It saves them lots of time and money before they invest it in you.

Cool, :sleep_125

well, I think I'll be fine... regardless I got it out of the way earlier, and didn't have to take time off to fly to Florida. The flight doc signed me off.. don't think NAMI is going to "disregard" that.

Not necessarily disregard it but do a complete new physical when you arrive for API. If they find something then... well... you know, like I said it is better to get your go from NMAI than any other flight Doc.

this info may be coming a little too late, but a good way to grease the skids is to come bearing gifts (read: unit coins, etc) to the Man, I wont mention his name, but if youve been through NAMI you know who I'm talking about. if not, PM me.

Just throwing some info out there, but I did my flight physical down at NOMI after I got picked up on my air contract before OCS, which I leave for in 4 days. I was down there three days, and it was pretty intense, but a good time as well. One PLC guy had already been to OCS but failed his color test (NPQED him right there). A female flight doc thought she heard a heart murmur on me which no one had every told me before. They had me do an echo test, everything ended up fine. Most guys get there up chit before you leave. Let me tell you, I was pretty nervious knowing this might end a flying dream that I've had. Good luck on your flight physical and TBS which I'm asuming you haven't went through yet.
