Have at it guys.

WARD CHURCHILL, PROFESSOR, UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO: For those of you who do, as a matter of principle, oppose war in any form, the idea of supporting a conscientious objector who's already been inducted and in his combat service in Iraq might have a certain appeal. But let me ask you this: would you render the same support to someone who hadn't conscientiously objected, but rather instead rolled a grenade under their line officer in order to neutralize the combat capacity of their unit? Conscientious objection removes a given piece of cannon fodder from the fray. Fragging an officer has a much more impactful effect.

By the way, ever notice that radical lunatics such as himself always see military officers as the equivalent of the Gestapo or SS?

I guess know I know the feeling's mutual. And anyway, like killing single officers is going to "neutralize the combat capacity of the unit." I can hear the laughter from the goat locker already . . . :p

That said, the rest of the interview is right on target. Let the nutcases say nutty things freely, so at least we KNOW they're nutcases!

The scary thing is he actually gets to try and brain wash Students at CU. Why does this guy still have a job? I mean, we gave him enough rope to hang himself with....which he did....now we need to give him a guillotine.

I grew up in MA. He'd be more than happy in that Communist state. Plenty of people there that go "Why would you ever do that?" when you say you're joining the military.

Take this from someone who attended CU and even took a class from Ward back in 2002. The man really doesn't stand for anything. Another student described him best in a local newspaper editorial stating that he fetishizes his own radicalism. Trust me, the back lash he has recieved may not be the most pleasant and may have cost him his position and department chair, but he is most assuredly getting off on all the controversy he has spawned.

I agree with most people that it would be in CU's best interest to remove Ward soon and as quietly as possible. He has no place teaching there, mainly because he does not teach. At CU he has found a place where he can preach his ideas to the Boulder culture (Boulder is described in Colorado as 20 square miles surrounded by reality) and get paid to do it. The real danger is that he is a remarkably charismatic speaker, and the many of the students at CU are ripe to be lost in his words.

Really, the most damaging thing that CU, or America, could do this man is the one thing most of us don't want to do. If he were to be fired, he would become the martyr for free speech and CU would have even more problems with student protest every damn day (really it would be their excuse to skip class and play frisbee). Ward would go on a national tour of protesting and advocating free speech. If Americans really wanted to destroy the man, everyone needs to stand up and say in a unified voice "your thoughts and ideas are so insignificant they aren't even worth humoring." Then if everyone ignored him for the next few years, and people stopped attending his classes he would most likely slip away into some dark hole.

He craves the controversy and attention surrounding him...remove that and you destroy his will.

There are always those that are open to slip into the spiral of radicalism. Students are ignorant, idealistic, and easily manipulated. That's why they're called "students".

There's a term that applies here... it's called "giving aid and comfort to the enemy".

The debate shouldn't be whether or not he should be fired, it's whether or not he should be arrested and charged with sedition. Advocating the murder of US military officers would fall squarely within the bounds of the Schenck v US definition of "clear and present danger"...

Crying fire in a crowded movie theater isn't protected by the First Amendment. Neither should this.

I can agree with this. He can spout his rhetoric about how he hates the US all he wants, but once he starts actively advocating and supporting the murder of specific people, namely military officers... that's a problem.

Don't think it is? Imagine if it was a white supremecist advocating the lynching of all black people. People would jump on that faster than a fat kid on a twinkie.

Do you really think that his remarks are a "clear and present danger"? If you do I am a bit suprised. If someone yelled fire in a crowded movie theater that could be an immediate threat to the people around them. Some nutcase/moron/idiot blowhard professor from Colorado advocating the killing of officers in the military is not a credible threat by any stretch of the imagination. RA0203 is right, if you let him spout this nonsense and just ignore him then he will just eventually fade away. If you prosecute or make an example of him you make a matyr out him. It is amazing how idiots like him eventually put their foot so far down their throats they end up choking themselves.
