Ok, assuming that I go through all my schooling fine and end up winged some day what happens to my ESWS pin? Only reason I ask is because it's something I definately worked by butt off for (before it became mando) and want to know if I can still wear it since I won't have to get the SWO pin.

Its the same as my dive pin as far as being able to wear it. You earned it, it goes on your uniform. I am pretty sure there is a way to transfer it to SWO, but have no idea where to start on that. The dive pin can be turned into a BDO pin (Basic Diving Officer) by filling out request. Don't know how easy it will be to turn yours gold.

You can keep wearing it after you get winged on your khaki and dress uniforms as your secondary pin under your ribbons. Like you said, you worked for it, why not wear iit?

There are a lot of dual warfare qualified bubbas in aviation, having done something first before getting there. As Thisguy said, you can wear both. I have my dive pin and my silver dolphins, I just rotate them when I am unforunate enough to be wearing my khakis, which is all the time right now! It actually states it in the uniform regs, if you are that interested in looking it up, you must wear your primary warfare qual you are working in up top, this really doesn't apply to us, who would put the wings of gold anywhere else?

As for switching the dive pin to gold (BDO), that's a new one for me, must apply to 2nd and 1st class divers or something. I have seen a shiny gold SCUBA pin on marines, but marines like anything that is shiny and foo foo for their uniforms (who loves ya) so that probably is definitely not what you were referring to.

I definitely don't think this applies for anything less than a 2nd class diver. I have seen it done with a 1st class diver and he said it was not even an issue at all. You have to be deep sea trained to be a BDO so SCUBA divers are out. Maybe they will let you go no cost TAD to BDO school during the long waits for API and Primary. Of course its too late for webmaster, but some of you other guys/submariners with SCUBA only pins could try it.

You can still wear your ESWS if you get winged. The rule is that you cannot wear enlisted and officer insignia for the same warfare specialty, ie. you cannot wear your ESWS with a SWO pin or EAWS wings with NFO or Aviator wings. Exceptions are jump and Aircrew wings, because they are not warfare pins.

The same rule applies to officers, though the only place it would apply I think is aviation. You cannot wear NFO wings and aviator wings or Flight Surgeon wings and NFO/Aviator wings, basically only one set of officer wings is allowed. You can still wear a SWO or Sub pin with wings, different warfare specialty. This rule is often ignored when wearing dress uniforms.

I can assure you that once you are winged, you will not only NOT have to qualify SWO (and therefore, wear the pin), but you also won't be allowed to. So no worries about turning your ESWS into a SWO pin.

While on the issue of quals... what would be the chance of swinging jump school before API... just for fun??? I'd assume rather low, seeing as they dont want you getting hurt, but if it is possible, I'd like to do it.

I was told flat out that there was no way they'd send me. Might could have pushed the issue but I didn't. Perhaps different ROTC units are willing to take the risk, but are you willing to take the risk (especially considering the current situation in which the Navy needs extra fly boys like it needs a kick in the nuts)?

A guy out of my NRD went to SCUBA school. Might try that. Its only 5 weeks and nothing dangerous except PT everyday.
