What the CRAP?

:icon_rage Has anybody else had a package in Millington for over 3 MONTHS now!!! I put my package in mid AUGUST. I got my non-select for Pilot and NFO fairly quick, begining of October. AMDO is the one I'm waiting on now. They said that the board met last October but when I called to get my results they had to put in an inquiry as to what the hell was going with my package because it had been there so long and when they brought up my name in the system it just said "awaiting results". When I called back, they said that I had been bumped to the November board. I'm just wondering if
1.) my package sliped into a crack and they just found it,
2.) They wanted me but didn't have enough slots for fiscal 06 to put me in,
3.) They didn't have enough applicants for a board in October, or,
4.) There just waiting a really long time to tell me NO!!!

If I don't get selected then I'm not going to put myself and my wife through all of this bull again. I'm supposed to be transfered right now, so i'm in limbo waiting for this board. If I find out I made it then I ship out in about two months, if I find out that I didn't make it then I have to negotiate orders on the spot (which everybody in the Navy knows isn't good at ALL!!). This is driving me nuts, I'm so tired of being so patient. I've got my whole family, all of my wifes family, and my landlord breathing down my neck asking "have you heard anything yet, huh huh have you?"

Anyways, talk to me Goose.

AMDO is a small community (as you may know), so I don't think they have a board every month. Also, I got a phone call from the community manager before my recruiter knew anything, so maybe you can ask the senior 1520 in your command to give him a call and see if he can find anything out that way.

I think that I'm also kind of upset with the O's over there on those boards too. I have a guy in my command right now that just got turned down for NFO, Pilot and AMDO. This guy is sailor of the year, has four NAMs, seven years as an AT, is a Second Class (AW), number 1 E-5 in the command (big command), and 26 years old. You know what they told him? That his ASTB score wasn't high enough, he scored like a 46 or something like that. I just couldn't believe that they overlooked all of his qualifications and experience for a stupid test that will never tell you what kind of an officer that your going to be. I don't know if any of you were prior enlisted or are enlisted now, but I can tell you that I've come across people in the Navy that scored in the high 90s on there ASVAB and are as dump as rocks. Some of them were the worst technicians that I had ever seen. There going to teach you everything you need to know about flying in FLIGHT SCHOOL, so why would you need to know anything about that in the first place. Ok now I can see that they don't want complete idiots putting in packages or anything, but I was under the impression that the officer interviews were supposed to weed out the retards. This guy had Navy Captains saying that they wanted him back under there command as officers.

A little bitter over here

Well, the key is, what were his Pilot/NFO scores (x/x/x)? There's a bare minimum for those, plus, the minimum isn't necessarily competitive.

I am, however, surprised that AMDO didn't take him...he sounds like a good fit for that.

Yes, they will teach you how to fly in flight school, HOWEVER they want people who are able to pick up the information at the rate they NEED someone to learn it. The ASTB is one method of determining that, to see how much a potential stud will learn in advance. Exercise some patience but certainly push your chain of command to get some answers.

Unfortunately not everything in the military happens fast and sometimes without any apparent reason. Keep pushing for that commission.

I think that the fact that he has four NAMs, and is the #1 E-5 in the command is enough to tell me that he is motivated to learn, not what he scored on his ASTB. I'm not trying to dog civilians or anything, but as an Officer, I would much rather have the experience, and proven dedication then a few points higher on an ASTB. He did have passing scores too by the way. But as a true sailor, he has told me to not let this hinder me in my trying to become an Officer. He really is an outstanding sailor.

I talked to my AMO today and he said he is going to try and see whats going on. So good idea there.

Not saying you should not be upset but be careful with the things you say on an internet board. Your name is right there and you never know if someone from the board reads this site. I know plenty of people who took more than one try with the same scores as your buddy. FIDO, and if he really wants to be an Officer he can retake his ASTB and submit again.

I've been in the Navy long enough to know that higher ups don't like wussies. Confidence and experience is what gets you through the military, and if you havn't been on more deployments then I have, then this post ends here.

fietkabj,

Sarnav wasn't trying to challenge you; he was just making sure that you know what you say on this board can have reprecussions. You never know who is reading the boards because there are a lot of people that just lurk without ever posting. He may just be in A-Pool but he did something right to earn a commission, something that you are trying to obtain. Good luck with everything and welcome to the boards!

That's a valid point, but keep in mind that he isn't competing with civilians for an OCS slot. He's competing with other sailors from the fleet, so if you think his package is good, there must be some out there that are better.

Easy there high speed, I wasn't always an O, and I do know something about stepping through the door to the Officer side of the house. If you want to play tough guy on a computer, more power to you, I don't need to prove anything, I have done my time and can't wait until I get back to the fleet to do it again. As an AE2 you should know better than to come on to boards mouthing off there Brian, you never know who you are talking to.

Have the best day ever!
