Hi Forum!

I just found out that I going to the April 9, 2005 OCS class, then Supply School!!

I got 2 questions for all you mustangs out there!!

I am prior enlisted with 3-year active duty and 5-year SELRES service. Far as I understand, I am supposed to report to OCS with my medical and service records. I was told by my reserve center, however, that they need to close all my records once I am discharged from Naval Reserve and enlist for OCS. My records will be forwarded to record center, and I guess I will start new service/medical records in OCS. Does this sound right? I would really like to be able to keep my prior records. Does any body know how it works for people with prior service?

Second, if my current pay grade is higher than E5, do I get to keep it? Far as I understand, I will keep my current pay grade, but my recruiter is telling my otherwise. Any ideas??

Thanks a lot! :)

If you have a current paygrade over E-5, you will be paid at the same rate. You won't get a paycut just for going to OCS!

You should bring your service record and medical/dental records. The medical records will continue. You will be given your service record to keep eventually as officers do not have service records.

You will continue to be paid at your current paygrade.

Make sure you go to the official OCS website if you haven't already. I think it should answer most of your questions. I think the records issue is addressed there, but I'm not positive. (yup, just checked and it says to bring your records)

If you are discharged before you go to OCS then you will not retain your previous paygrade. You will retain your previous paygrade if you are seperated from service and are still under contract when you go to OCS. This is how it was explained to me anyway. I did not get to keep my previous paygrade since I had been discharged for several months. Don't worry about bringing your service records if in fact you will be discharged before you get to OCS.

Be sure to bring your medical record. If there is anyway at all to grab them before you go. It will help when it comes time to get shots, during initial screening with the doctors, etc.
