Here is my situation, i put in an ocs package in august and expected to hear the results for the sept board by know. My Senior Chief called and was told the results weren't out yet to wait until the end of the month.....

here is where it gets crappy, i saw that goob83 put out that the results from the board were out and even though my command hasn't been able to get the results i am unsure if my package even made it to the board at this point??? much less if i made it or not!!!!

I was ok with being patient and everything waiting for the proper channels and not calling anyone trying to find out but i get a call yesterday that my grandmother had a byopsi (spelling???) because she was getting sick all the time and that they found cancer in her lungs, on her liver, her stomach and know her kidneys are shutting down!!! there is blood in her urine etc.... the doctor told her to go be with her family that she probably won't have more than a week left. I might not even get home in time before she passes but i at least wanted to get to tell her she could be proud and that i was gonna get a shot at my dream and that her encouragement helped me never quit(if i made it).

should i try to have my senior chief call again and see if he can get word on whether i made it or not so that i can tell her before i get a chance to go see her? i want to hear the news the normal way but don't want her to pass what would you do? try to find out to tell her which could backfire if i did'nt get selected or try anyways and give good news if i get it?

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your grandmother, seeing them pass is always tough. In this situation I would say a white lie never hurt anyone, if you think it is that important to her then tell her you were accepted, I don't see anything wrong in that.

Now for the real questions... What communities did you apply for? When in August did you submit your package? What were your ASTB, GPA, PRT, test results like?

These questions are important because if you applied for Supply you won't shear until the first week of October, they meet the last week of September. If you submitted late August you may not have made the cut off and could have gotten bumped to the October boards, your OR won't know this until the first week of October when October packages up for review are released. Your scores might not have been good enough to get you selected this board, you may have been tabled. I hope this helps!

I'll echo ASSWANDS sentiments about your g-mom, but I'll add that I call my OR like every other day. I don't have any reservations about bugging his ass. At this point (I am in for Oct boards) I know I have a month or more's wait but if I were I would just keep calling. What's the worst you can do? Piss him off?

Go be with your grandmother and tell her how much she inspired you to work hard, never quit, and achieve your maximum potential. Whether you got accepted or not is immaterial to the qualities that she has passed on to you.

Sorry to hear about her situation. I'm sure that she's proud of you no matter what. make sure that she knows that you feel the same about her.

you guys got a point, some good insight. i think i got a good chance to make it but just trying to maintain my patience with the whole board process. the message traffic should be out by the end of this month or the begining of oct so i am going to just do what you guys said, just convey that message that she meant alot and built that character in me that you can have anything and do anything you just got to work hard and be willing to give up other things to get it.

thanks everybody for your rapid repsonses.

This guy's right...as I've learned from experience, you have to realize that being proactive in situations like this is an absolute must...nobody cares about your career as much as YOU...so bug the shit out of your OR...after all, he's getting paid to do a job...make sure your tax dollars and your career aren't going to waste!

i just would'nt want him to "misplace" a file or something. I think my best route would be to call next week, he told me the results should be out via message traffic(which is the only way my command seems to know how to find out) by the middle of next week. i hear you on the taking charge of my career though the only way that my package is even done is because i was the only proactive person throught my career to get it done, noone else throughout my career ever gave a crap or helped me with direction.

thanks again

These guys are officers...they may be annoyed, but I doubt malicious round-filing is part of the way they do business...be respectful, be tactful, but keep getting info...it is YOUR career...
