I was in the DEP a couple of years ago for CTI - passed the DLAB, 16K enlistment bonus - and then I was disconnected due to a pregnancy. I was unable to reenlist following the birth, because I already had a husband (navy vet, age 33) and another child.
I just began my senior year at college yesterday, I am 24, 3.0 gpa, and still want to join the Navy as an officer. The biggest problem right now is that I am again pregnant (and will be getting my tubes tied as soon as this one is born!). I have contacted an officer recruiter, and would like to take the appropriate test, but I am afraid of being rejected before I even try due to my medical status. Normally I am in great health, and still maintain a good level of activity appropriate for the pregnancy. The baby is due in January, I am planning on graduating in May. I am a Liberal Studies major (history, polisci, english), and I am interested in intelligence, public affairs, communications, or anything, really. I also speak, read and write conversational Russian.
Can anyone tell me what challenges I will face beyond what everyone else is dealing with?
Will the recruiters allow me to take the test?
What sort of OAR will I need to achieve to be considered for these areas (or any area I might qualify for)?
Any advice or info is appreciated!

If the recruiter does not want you to test it is only because you will not be able to physical and submit any findocs for months. They may want you to wait. In any case, I am afraid you might have a tough row to hoe. There will be some real trepidation on the part of the board to send a young woman with two children, at least one in diapers, to OCS. They will doubt your chances of completing the program. Not for physical reasons, but DOR. Happy you still want to serve. Call a recruiter and good luck.

Good for you!

I'm no expert in any of this, I'm merely relating what I've been told. The area of Public Affairs is very competitive...like the Navy only has one spot open for OCS applicants per year. I was talking to the guy who got in this past year, and he said that despite the odds, go for it! So basically, I just want to clarify the reality of PA, but also to wish you the best in pursuing it as a possible community!

Here's wishing you the best! :icon_zbee
