Which khaki cover??

Just wondering which cover is prevalent amongst the Naval Aviation community while wearing flight suits. I didn't examine the covers that closely while I was a maintainer, but it seemed like ALL the aviators wore the CNT/Poly-wool cover and not the working Poly-cotton. The only people that I know I've seen in the working cover are my fellow SNAs. To be honest I've always worn the CNT cover, the dip seems to hold better. ;)

On a related note, once the working khakis are completely phased out, what are the uniform regs going to change to? Could you imagine if they used the "equivalent" uniform item? The 8-point aqua-flage cover in flight suits? Now that would be a sight to see!

I wear the wash-khaki cover. They're easier to keep clean. I think in flight suits that's what we're supposed to wear, but I see both all the time.

It depends- primarily I wear my wash khaki cover (I like that folds up in my pocket when I go flying). My secondary is a polywool cover in the glovebox of my car. Plan C is my old CNT cover I keep in my desk drawer for when the first two fall through. Failing that, Plan D is based on observation, deception, speed, maneuver, and stealth: a casual clearing turn followed by a mad dash to the car. Plan C came before Plan B but Plan B went into effect when Plan A and the original Plan B (which is now Plan C) met the "Swiss cheese" model/"chain-of-events"/"fault tree" of backup khaki covers at which time I had to buy a tertiary khaki cover. I carefully re-evaulated all three options based on most likely and most dangerous cover-police-course-of-action and a robust defense in depth.

But mainly it's wash khaki.

I like the wash khaki because I can just throw it in the laundry with flight suits once in a while. It gets sweaty so I like to keep my p/w cover looking good to wear with service khakis in case I need to don them in short order (a real possibility in flight school). I also think the p/w cover looks a little too nice for wear with the bag; plus it definitely embodies the "manila envelope" description that some on here have made if you don't rock the dip.

Keep it clean and no one will give a rat's ass.

Meh, you barely even have to do that. On most days I only wear the thing for maybe 1min total for the walk to/from my car.

No one cares which one you wear except the occasional chief and nitpicker, but since the regs just changed, you can now legally wear which ever one you want.

I miss the piss cutter. In the guard, at least on drill weekends, we have to wear the gay black beret. That thing promotes esprit de corp about as much as a powder blue leisure suit. Now they got rid of our green zoomie suits!

At least during the week we can wear either an ACU patrol cap (ball cap) or the facility ball cap with an embroidered alligator emblem.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I wasn't really worried about getting in trouble for wearing the P/W one, just currious as to what people are rocking these days around the world on NavAir. I personally like Jim123's answer, kinda circles the wagons. When did the new Uniform Regs come out? I haven't been able to get on the NPC website for months, it loads for several minutes and then says the site can't be displayed.

This sounds similar to my gameplan, not to mention the wristwatch strategy I employed back in VT-86. :icon_tong
