An updated "world view" presentation given by Peter at entrepreneurial forum in Nashville the other day. Long, but I think definitely worth a viewing to help inform your own worldview.

It has also been confirmed that their first model of a new nuclear submarine design sank in port over the spring.

This thread reads a lot like my ACSC courses.

China is a threat to the USA and our allies within the IndoPacom region.

How do we best counter this threat? Well, it's complicated. Our domestic politics don't help.

ASEAN is important, AUKUS, the Philippines as well.

Gray zone and hybrid warfare keep the big powers from direct conflict and full scale war.

The worst thing for us to do right now is become isolationist. The world is becoming multipolar, we must have our hands in every pot across the globe to ensure our interests, and those of our allies, prevail. We also need to make our adversaries' interests align with ours. IE- it's probably time to repeal the Wolf Amendment.

For most of my career, I would have argued that it definitely was a BS "pivot" as you say. A defense-industrial complex yearning for a USSR surrogate in the 20-30 years post USSR. I'll say that in the last couple years, after listening to more of their own internal and external statements, I might have been wrong. I don't really envision us entering into actual full-scale conflict with China, but I am convinced that they are at least preparing for that scenario......whether out of fear, or genuine intent. Hard saying. And to Brett's point, perhaps reversed, is their response the chicken or the egg, based on our shifting political winds towards China since the 1990s?

What’s wrong with the Wolf amendment?

It prevents NASA, or any company that works with NASA, from cooperating with China in any space venture.

I know the MO for China is to steal tech, and we'd have to keep a close eye on them.

We saw a lot of success in relationship building with the Russians in space with Apollo-Soyuz, Skylab, and the ISS. I think we should open a similar avenue of cooperation between NASA and the CNSA. We can set conditions for their participation in said venture- like obeying UNCLOS- or they get kicked out. They have some pretty interesting capabilities and keeping our friends close but our enemies closer, especially when it comes to the (re)emerging potential conflict region of space, is going to be important.
