USN FY25 CEC DCO Reserve Board

I feel like right about a month after not hearing anything I start getting antsy and wondering what’s going on. I wonder if the new administration has any effect on how fast these things get processed.

Have you guys given any thought to commissioning ceremonies? I wasn’t planning to do much, not being prior service, but my recruiter encouraged me to make a slightly bigger deal out of it.

Have you submitted your Ready Reserve Transfer Request Service Agreement yet?

I was notified of my selection before Christmas and still haven’t received my final select letter or COMDOCS.
Submitted the RRA on 01/15 but no FINSEL yet

Hello everyone and congrats to @adam2024. I highlighted below my understanding of three items needed to clear to get your FINSEL (I have been wrong many times).
Medical Clearance (N33)
Security Clearance (Favorably Adjudicated)
Administrative Processing:
All required documentation received

Once you are clear, your name is submitted and should appear on the Reserve Active-Status List (RASL) Officers "scroll" then the secretary of defense/Navy will approve your FINSEL. This process take ~6 weeks.
After FINSEL signed then COMDOCS are requested for oath and signature.

I heard from my OR today that he expects FINSEL within two weeks and COMDOCs around end of March. First drill will be around early May (Your mileage might vary). I just wanted some rough timelines to plan personally and professionally. Anyone has given any thoughts about ODS dates (Attached FY25 dates)? It would be cool to meet some of you.

I have not given much thought to commissioning ceremony but don't let that keep you from doing what you want. It is your commissioning. I do plan to get some regular silver dollars for first salutes even though that might be a ways out.

If anyone is planning to go to uniform thrift shops when we can get to them, maybe we can keep an eye out for each other's sizes. Could be a bit of saving if local and still some if shipping.

@Eknight86 thanks for the updated process and requirements. Haven't looked much into ODS dates, but like Coffeeguy mentioned, it appears summer slots fill up quickly and AD are prioritized. I'm fully expecting to have to go in late fall/winter.

@ZCGB001 I'm planning to commission and pin onto khakis. Got a personal friend who will be flying in and they will be in khakis as well. Dress blues felt a little too much for me. Planning to engrave a small batch of challenge coins to hand out.

@lead82 Are you current/prior enlisted? I don’t think I would feel comfortable wearing a uniform before I commission (besides which I would have to find a way to get a uniform in the first place), I’m thinking I’ll just wear a suit. Have you given the scale of the ceremony any thought? I’ve seen/heard of going big with color guard, speakers, etc. I don’t think I want to go that big, but maybe something a little more than my recruiter’s office, I’m just trying to find the right balance.

As far as ODS, I’m guessing I’ll try to get in as soon as possible. Fall/winter works better for my current job to not be gone during the construction season.

@ZCGB001 I was prior enlisted, but a very long time ago. If you prefer not to wear a uniform, that's perfectly understandable. Alternatively, you can ask your recruiter to help make sure you're all set up properly.

As far as scale, my plan is to keep it small, just a couple close friends and spouse. If it is delayed enough, I will consider requesting to do it with my local university NROTC. I doubt the timing will line up though.

I contacted my recruiter today, and she mentioned that the person who writes the letters is running the shop by herself, so there’s definitely a backlog. She said hopefully we’ll get a select letter in the next couple of weeks. Please let me know if anyone has received or will receive a select letter.

I have been selected last December for CEC DCO, but I haven’t received my FINSEL yet. Has anyone received theirs or have insight on when to expect it?
Nope, still waiting on mine. Signed ready reserve agreement but still waiting on finsel. My expectations are as described previously by Eknight86: +6 weeks for finsel, then another +2 weeks for comdocs, so I'm expecting to commission some time end of March or early April.

@adam2024 did you sign your ready reserve agreement yet?

I was looking at 25070 and 25080 but I heard that it can be a challenge for reservists to get a spot.

DCO FINSEL can take a while for a variety of reasons, particularly:

1. You might be a next fiscal year selection (i.e. can't commission until 1 October) and
2. You need to be scrolled/appointed as an ENS/O-1, which requires SECDEF signature + approval.

#2 can be the biggest hold up and until OSD approves your appointment, you cannot receive a FINSEL and commission.

When officers are originally commissioned or promoted, Title 10 requires appointment by either the President, sometimes with advice and consent of the Senate, or by the Secretary of Defense. A list of individuals to be appointed, prepared for signature by the President or the Secretary, is referred to as a scroll, and hence the process of preparing and processing a list is informally called scrolling.

The OCS kids this process is quicker because they have all of OCS to be scrolled/appointed (also, they enlist vice commission first), DCO because they go to ODS on the "back end" (within a year of commissioning), the scrolling must be done first before a FINSEL can be generated.
