Point of order... aren't shave chits a medical matter, vice one of grooming standards?
Yes, but I would argue that the medical folks have gotten very liberal or we just recruited a bunch of people who don’t know how to shave. On the former, I had to direct a reset and clearly define who had the authority within medical to issue. Of note, the sail is supposed to return to medical for a follow up, which most do not.

The Marines issued a policy that if the member can't get better after a year of treatment to maintain a clean shaven appearance, that it's grounds for medical discharge.

That seemed really extreme so I looked up the treatment. Lo and behold, no shaving for 4-6 weeks is supposed to be followed with an additional treatment regimen to start with alternate shaving techniques.

Most ANG wings are well outside the acceptable distance to a military treatment facility, and our Med Group/flight docs can't do diagnostic medicine, so everyone is Tricare Prime Remote (or Reserve Select) and has their own civilian doctor. This is generally a win- as you get to pick your doctor and see someone you trust.

Getting a diagnosis of folliculitis barbae is as easy as getting one for hair loss, or ED.

We have grooming standards for beards.

The only way they're going to be able to stop military members from having beards (especially in the Guard/Reserve bases and perhaps the recruiting outposts) is to make the medical condition grounds for separation or retirement- ala what the USMC does.

Presuming the sculptor got it right, I suppose we should reconsider naming a ship for this gentleman because, well....a little thick in middle... clearly brining into question his fidelity to the war-fighting ethos, to say nothing of his #lethality.

I don't disagree, but if the direction is to review grooming standards, then the SD order may not be properly scoped.

You mean to say that words have meaning? And perhaps that someone who's only credentials are being promoted to O-4 in the IRR and being a Fox News Host doesn't have the understanding and knowledge of how regulations are written and implemented when concerning an organization of 2 million people with very different backgrounds, and goals?

Color me shocked.

This is playing out how I imagined it would if you made an E-5 the wing commander.

It's clearly coming from the top - POTUS. The administration so far is extremely impulsive at implementing policies without doing their homework first, and it's causing them to have egg on their faces more often than not. Although there's a significant component that Hegseth obviously believes the talking points he was spouting in his previous role as a celebrity and isn't interested in learning the facts.

Normally, there's enough institutional support and nameless SMEs in the beltway where even someone with Hegseth's lack of credentials would be okay in the role.

The great thing about my mind is that I know I'm not qualified to be SecDef...more people should have that innate ability.

Don't think I've seen this linked to current events, though I'm sure someone else has had the thought.View attachment 42074

Animal Farm comes to mind as apropos...

I have never had any desire to be SECDEF, or even an O-6. That's likely part of why the machine spit me out.

I don't know if I've posted this here yet, but as my MC1 and I were discussing how he would search through then entirety of our installation's SM posts to remove words and phrases that had been deemed subversive by our President, I asked him if the name Winston Smith meant anything to him. I then explained that Winston Smith, the protagonist in 1984, worked at the Ministry of Truth, and that his job was to go through old news stories and change words and phrases to be more in line with The Party's propaganda. So, thanks to our civilian leadership for making us waste several days on this nonsense. The amount of lost/wasted man-hours spent on this stuff across the DoD is incalculable.
