What platform to most NFOs end up?

I am applying to the next NA/SNFO board and will be happy if i get selected for either. If selected i will be making this a 20 year career. I was just wondering which aircraft most NFOs end up. I would love jets or P8’s ideally, but I know most of this will depend on needs of the Navy and class rank, but generally speaking.. is there a platform that most NFOs end up rather than others?

Hi sir, thanks for your reply. Ive been reading the threads on this sub but cant seem to get a good gouge. Based on all the info im reading on here ive been able to pretty much determine what each type of NFO actually does on each platform, but not really what the likelihood is of getting each particular platform. Any insight would be appreciated

Because there is no actual measurement. It is based on the needs of the navy, your grades, and the timing of your personal selection. I believe P-8’s and E-2’s and EC-130Q’s have the most NFO seats across the fleet, but even then where you end up is based on the factors I noted earlier.

Perhaps roughly 30-40% jets, 30-40% P-8s, 20% E-2s and <10% E-6s. I have not seen the actual numbers, but spent the last 8 years at TW-6 where the students come through. People don’t like to talk about those numbers because they literally mean nothing to you. These numbers are averages that don’t apply to any specific graduating class. The Navy looks at these selections on a week to week basis, and if the new class wants all jets and the next wants all big wing, they won’t hold back some from the first week so everyone gets what they want. Don’t join if you NEED to fly a specific platform to excel/be happy.

I am curious to see what E-130 gets slot-wise. Currently it’s 10-14 NFOs a year to the E-6, but that is a fleet of 16.

SNFOs fear a draft, and rumint runs wild
