This is a recurring theme. Trump's last SECDEF made some comments on Shawn Ryan about how we shouldn't really be focusing on this big war that might not ever happen (I'm paraphrasing). Seems to be a common theme when putting people in the job who have been focused on COIN at the operational level rather than "near-peer" at a more strategic long-term level.
So you are in favor of sending thousands more Ukrainian and Russian young men to their deaths? How does this end? Ukraine has no cards. I'm in favor of sending more Russian young men to their deaths... absolutely. Since Ukraine is clearly willing to sacrifice their own blood and treasure in defending the sovereignty of their country, I also support that. The primary reason that belligerents vie for peace is when the costs of war outweigh the costs of settlement. Neither Ukraine nor Russia is there yet.

If Ukraine decides they want to sue for peace, then so be it. But they haven't. They never expected that the US would throw Russia a lifeline. Russia's economy is in shambles right now. For the US to pull the plug on UKR right now, it would be the biggest own goal in history...same/same with this admin's tariff policy.
The lack of any moral clarity from the US is astonishing.

That's nice, they want an end to the war but if you think the Ukrainian people want to blithely accept the current peace proposal and kowtow to Russia you would be wrong.
It is not about what WE want, it is about what Ukraine wants. Their democratically elected leadership has decided to keep fighting and the populace continues to support it. We should continue to support their choice to keep fighting and not reward a shitbag dictator who wants nothing less than destroy Ukraine.
