05MAY2025 SWO BOARD

I’d say try not to stress too much. My recruiter’s been ignoring my emails and texts too, I’m honestly getting close to just showing up at the office once results are posted. That said, I get it. Recruiters are usually juggling a ton, since the Navy loves ‘well-rounded sailors’ and often piles on extra duties or collaterals. It’s definitely not ideal or the most professional, but in my opinion, it’s best to give them time and a lot of patience. At the end of the day, they’re only human.
Thank you for that!

Glad I finally found others waiting for May 5th selection. The anticipation and waiting had me worried.

I found a board schedule for FY25 and didn't see anything about May 5th for SWO & was beginning to feel like my recruiter was either got incorrect info or was stalling to tell me there was more steps😭.

I've been super anxious cuz my family and coworkers keep asking when I'm going and I get the feeling everybody thinks I'm either hiding something or I'm lying. I think we get results this week. I just want this to finally be real so I can focus on moving forward without uncertainty.

To anybody else going through the same, I'm praying we make it through and that we get the opportunity to prove ourselves and make the best out of this new chapter. 🙏

How's everybody doing in terms of fitness/physical readiness? Just wanna get a good read seeing that we technically all might ship out same date.

A little nervous personally. I know I'm in great shape, but I'm not a complete stud or anything by any means and I'm obviously not expecting OCS to be physically easy so I guess hearing everyone's perspective will put my mind more at ease since we're getting close to receiving our ship out dates.

Definitely a little nervous on this aspect. For me, great fitness has never been a big priority, so I've doing my best to train and get prepped. The swimming and plank, I'm good. But I'm not ashamed to admit that the running and pushups have been kicking my butt. As of today, I can score Sat Med on everything but the run.

Bro yes! Running has gotta be the worst part of the physical requirements.😭

Don't get me wrong, I can do endurance running easy. Without a time limit , I could run as long as you need me too. But speed is not my specialty at all.

For reference, I'm 6'5 and at just about 18% body fat. Slightly more muscular than lean. I can run for an hour max at talking pace, but anything above 5.5mph just burns me out so quickly.

My best time is a 8:34 mile on a treadmill which I can do consistently. But no matter what, I always just burn out at the mile mark.

I only ever make 14-15 minutes on the 1.5 mile mark. But I feel like being in a competitive environment will push me for sure.

Oh word. Love hearing from another tall dude! I'm 6'8" but I'm on the huskier side of things lol my 1.5 mile is currently 16 minutes. I've been shaving 45 sec to a minute off my times each week by experimenting with longer strides / slower pace.
(Praying I keep that rate of progress as I get further along)

What's been working for you so far? With the specs you said, I'm a little surprised to hear you gas out after the mile mark. A consistent 8:34 mile sounds great!

So, my method personally has been just spending a lot of time on the stair master some days to strengthen my legs + when I run on the treadmill, I just keep going the same pace for days on end then take a few days break to recover and then just increase .5 speed after 2 weeks of the same pace. At least that's how I worked up to 7MPH.

Then from there it just became a mental game, telling myself "If you run faster, you can get done with this mile faster and then you don't have to run anymore, if you run slower, this will take forever". But as of right now, I've been trying to find the right way to get over the 1.5-mile hurdle. 7MPH up to the 1.0-mile mark is difficult on its own, but as of right now I need to push myself to break past my limit and last just another 4 minutes and 28 seconds which on paper doesn't sound too bad.... but in physical reality feels like forever.

To be honest, hitting the stair master sounds like a great idea. I'm gonna have to try adding that myself for the strength/endurance. My biggest issue is my legs feel heavy nearly my whole run, so that sounds like a good fix.

I have a buddy who is training for a marathon right now, and I asked him about what you said to overcome the last bit of extra distance. He recommended I tell you to try doing 5k's at a minute to 2 minutes slower than your max mile pace.

When I first started training to prep for OCS back in April, he had me walking 5k's before I ever even tried running. (I'd literally never gone for a run before this) I can't speak for everyone, but it really changed my mindset and helped me tackle the 1.5 without gassing out.
