If i have to redesignate at OCS (due to failing the flight physical) and am offered an IW role, what happens to you after OCS while you wait for your TS clearance to clear?

Depending on how quickly you get cleared, you shouldn’t be there too long, if at all. You’ll just go to student pool after graduation and wait to be cleared. Student pool was super chill when I was there, but some people almost cost us our liberty privileges lol

Gotcha ok, so basically you would stay in Newport til youre cleared which might take a few extra months right?

Months is a bit of a stretch, but not totally crazy. I’ve known a few people who had extended stays there (and not necessarily for good reasons)

It could be anywhere from a few days for medical things to a few weeks/months (recovering from injury, redesignation of communities, LEGAL ISSUES, etc)

I’m supposed to leave my command in October for November OCS but am dealing with some medical things that could potentially take a few plus months to recover, mainly because it takes a couple months for medical to even look at you. If need be can i get pushed to a later class, if so who do i contact, or will i lose my orders if i say im not fit for full?

Some things have probably changed since I was there, but this was my daily routine while I was recovering from my surgery (weekdays):

1. Breakfast and muster by 7 or 8am
2. Whatever cleaning task they assigned me that day
3. Gym
4. Lunch and take a nap
5. 2pm = LIBERTY LIBERTY LIBERTY
6. Go off base with some friends for dinner and drinks
7. Go to bed whenever I felt like it
8. Repeat

You can pretty much do whatever you feel like doing in student pool as long as you don't do anything stupid enough to get liberty privileges taken away for everyone (like deciding to go for a swim in the bay while walking back home on base, for example)

Edit: exercise good judgment when deciding how you spend your free time. The people who are in student pool because they DOR'd, attrited, etc. have nothing to lose since they're getting out; don't let them cost you your career

I was going through and filling out my commissioning physical today. I came across the box “Have you had acne that required medication”. I put yes as I did go on acutane for some months during 2022, my acne didn’t require it, but I used it regardless. I’ve read that could be a problem because it can cause night vision to become worse while using it, but once you’re off it, it should return to normal after weeks or months. I’ve never personally had problems with vision or night vision. I also had a flight physical done November of 2024, part of that was seeing an optometrist. I passed everything, have 20/20 vision, etc. Is this something I should be concerned about? Will they ask about it?

I also did accutane, and there was some concern about increased intraocular pressure while I was on it. I ended up not having any issues with that.

My first recruiter told me there was some concern about it because of the possibilities of mental health problems associated with it.

Makes sense, it’s been nearly 4 years since I took it. From what I researched they may ask me, but shouldn’t be concerned. At my last eye test my night vision was healthy.

Still no orders, took fitness test last week, recruiter called yesterday said that I have to go back to MEPS tomorrow to get fingerprinted again since it has been longer than 6 months ( 6 months elapsed this past May - LOL). Takes 48 hours for results, said I would swear in Tues/Wed next week and need to be in Newport —Saturday— cutting it a bit close, someone dropped the ball — no way this SOP

Personal anecdote: I had to go back to MEPS and do the whole thing since it had been 2 years since my last one. The next day, my recruiter called me and said I had to do it again because they didn't get my depth perception results (?????). Scheduled a time to go back at the ass crack of dawn and the processors were seriously confused why I was only there for a single part of the eye exam. In the end, they saw the goof and had me in and out in about 20ish minutes.

That being said, I know a few people who found out they got selected for their designator then shipped off in the next week or two. Not sure why this is, but it's happened

It's close but not impossible. Just make sure your recruiter is actively engaged.
