I believe you can chat with the Amex reps and see when you’re eligible to receive the credit again.
Ah no worries. I always was told that they ping the database once a year.I'm trying to stay under their radar, as they still haven't "found me out" yet as no-longer AD. But if I have to give them a call, I can do that. Just thought I'd ask here first.
When you sign up for Platinum, what documentation do they ask for to prove your status? If you weren't using your Platinum benefits you were leaving thousands behind almost yearly. Between the basically free hotel benefits with FHR and the free meals with Resy the card does actually pay for itself, even if they do find out that you retired several years ago.
I think I just sent them a copy of my orders. When you sign up for Platinum, what documentation do they ask for to prove your status?
They just reached out to me last week to start charging in August. I retired in septemeber of 2025. They must be doing a records scrub or something. It was good a good ride. After 17 years, my AMEX Platinum is finally no more.
I got a notice in the mail that my APR was going up and they were instating a $550 fee as it was noticed I was no longer on AD. I called and canceled immediately, since we weren’t using that card for anything significant.
It’s noteworthy for the thread, since I have been a reservist since 2020, and reserve retired since last summer, so there is clearly some lag in the system.
Waiting for that shoe to drop as well.<Looks right>, <Looks left>....Almost 8 years later...
I wonder if usage has anything to do with it… our Amex went from being the primary card for just about everything to being used for almost nothing over a period of several years.Waiting for that shoe to drop as well.
Yeah, I use it pretty infrequently - mostly for high dollar purchases for the points. TBH, I got the most out of it when I was at NAWDC and traveling a lot for TDY. These days, using the Uber credit is kind of a novelty for when I'm in the city.I wonder if usage has anything to do with it… our Amex went from being the primary card for just about everything to being used for almost nothing over a period of several years.
If you’re using your Amex a ton, maybe they’re less likely to do a records audit on you.
The only thing I really use it anymore is for the monthly Walmart plus free delivery credit and the ocasional uber eats credit to take a $15 dollar meal from a $50 dollar charge down to a $35 charge...I tend to use the Uber credit most months and will occasionally put something on the card. I don't travel via airlines much anymore other than when traveling for work (which isn't often), so I haven't used the airline credit in a while. The card isn't my primary, but I still keep it lubricated.
It typically changes whenever they review your account for renewal. You'll get a letter a few months out from your renewal date informing that you will have to pay the annual fee. They just reached out to me last week to start charging in August.
