01JUN26 SNA/SNFO board

I wouldn't count on it, yes it could happen, but you will always here about the ones that did the lateral transfer but you don't hear the ones who tried and were not accepted. Many things have to line up for it to happen and if it doesn't would you be happy for the rest of your career as a NFO? I have worked with officers that commissioned via NROTC/USNA that didn't get their first choice of aviation and then tried to lateral in, for the most part they were not happy people after they were not picked up.

You are absolutely correct, enlisted have more hoops to jump through some are not even required by the instruction but by the CO's desiring to add what they think is important.

I would hear all types of false info from those in the fleet or enlisted recruiters trying to get people to go enlisted with college degrees. The false info coming from those from the fleet wasn't just some random CCC or LT there was a enlisted testing at our facility who received just wrong info from a CDR and we had no idea why he thought what he thought.

ISPP is a way to help enlisted out at least for some of the process.

If you were my applicant and if you had only taken the ASTB once I would say study and retake to get higher scores, in fact any of my applicants that had 7's I told them to keep studying in case they were given a "No", it tended to work out well for them.

It doesn't hurt to ask it could also just be a typo which has happened before.

Unless you were using it like Cheech and Chong it is really no big deal, historically 7's are a 50/50 shot and sometimes there is no reason as one with a 7 gets a yes and one gets a no.

Maybe, but with 7's historically being 50/50 shot you just don't know, I saw enough people with a 5 AQR selected that I couldn't say for sure yes or no, what I would tell a person with 7's and a no is to study and retest if they can.

what's up guys, ive seen a couple posts with info like this and I figured id share my low ASTB test scores packet to help some guys understand maybe how I got picked up with a low score but passing.

What did my packet look like?

  1. -street applicant picked up for SNA with a 4/7/5 (Also if you put SNA and NFO your 90% getting NFO. I only put down SNA)
  2. -3.5 GPA sports management degree
  3. -Played College baseball at a Senior Military College
  4. - I had 2 4 star LORs a 2 star and 2 Captains(All military aviators)
  5. -I also have 40 hours of Flight hours

Not putting this out to brag but for some people to understand my process on getting selected. Putting this out here for the guys who are questioning there scores and not being selected for there first option. I truly believe the whole packet matters when most of the recruiters say other parts of your packet isn't as important as your ASTB scores. Hope this helps, see y'all in Newport
