Hal, I thought you airline guys wore those little "walkman" styled headsets?
I do in jets but for turboprops I use ANRs. Heck, in cruise I usually take the headset off and use the speaker.

Large aircraft don't need ANRs or anything with ear cups. Most corporate jets do not either, but there are some corporate jets that are noisy *******s.

Funny story involving ANR's: We had a Seminole doing touch and goes here at DAB that had blown an exhaust stack seal while in the pattern. The IP and student were both wearing ANR headsets and never knew anything was wrong until a mechanic from another FBO called ERAU and ERAU called the tower.
A Seminole is a piston and pistons were designed to eventually fail and kill you......give me a turbine engine....:D

If there was something seriously wrong it would have shown somewhere else. Temp gauge, manifold pressure, smoke & flames coming from the engine, etc. Saving my hearing is a lot more important to me than any chance my not hearing the engines will cause me a problem.

I agree saving your hearing is a great idea and I didn't mean to sound like I was challenging that. I just thought I would provide a funny story. :D
