I was thinking about transfering to embry riddle for aeronautical science degree and I was wondering if any navy/marine aviators or NFOs had went there and if you liked it?
I see in your profile that you're a mechanical engineering student at UNLV. If you have any interest at all in engineering, it is a great degree to have. Whether it's mechanical, electrical, aerospace, nuclear, blah blah blah, you'll be hard pressed to do better to prepare for your long term success than getting an engineering degree. This is not to say that you cannot be successful if you major in liberal arts or some other non-technical degree. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT GET A DEGREE IN AERONAUTICAL SCIENCE.

But I am in a predicament where I cannot afford to blow another semester at a state school here in California. Every school in this state is a party school with top notch girls everywhere.
You are smoking crack! Cal Poly Pamona and San Louis Obisbo are great engineering schools. Cal State San Bernardino is NOT a party school (I used to live across the street from it). UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC Berkeley.....these are all great schools and known more for their academic rigor than the party scene. Brown University up here in Rhode Island or even Harvard are not party schools in the least. But guess what? If you're prone to partaking more in the social scene than your academics, it won't matter in the least where you go to school. There's always a party to be had somewhere.

Haha, I'm glad to see everyone trashing my degree here. Oh well, I should have stuck with Finance! Anyhow, Aero Sci is a fun degree if you're not paying for it. Pap, with all due respect I think you're wrong about the 142 program. I can't type it all out now, but I will later today when I have some time. It does have its advantages.

Kansas State Univeristy at Salina...a great college and cheaper than Riddle. A couple of our professors went to Riddle and they have said that KSU is much better and more friendly to the students when it comes to flying. PM me if you have any questions.

Think about like going to college to play basketball just so you can get into the NBA. What if something happens to that kid? Well, he's boned. What if something happens to you that disqualifies you from flying? What will you fall back on?

I'm not too sure of all the things that could dq you from civil aviation, but I do know one guy who ended up having diabetes and could never fly again. Plus, more than one guy I know has developed cancer (as a 20 something). Small percentages of course, but still.

This is more than i paid to go to Cornell....

Which is better at damn near anything than ERAU...go to a good school and fly on your own.

$1200 per semester at UF (16 credits)....$1450 or so if you add books into it. And we got to interact with women that don't look like she-men.

It took me the whole of Freshmen year to finally work up the stones to ask the one she-dude on campus if she was a dude or a chick. Didnt help that his/her's name was Chris. I did it the PC way though and asked which team it was on. Womens Tennis, could have fooled me.

Now they are also doing this retarded FAR Part 142 training where you will do a portion of your IFR AND VFR flying in simulators.

Part 142 training allows the use of simulators, but the main advantage to it is that it basically waives the minimum hour requirements for each specific rating. The sim works well for IFR training. I don't mind practicing instrument stuff in there because you can shoot a lot more approaches during a sim ride versus a real flight.

Pap said:
WTF is up with that? Why do you want to spend just as much money for one hour in a Cessna simulator as you would on a real Cessna?

Eh, The sim runs $70.00/hr with an instructor, its about $60 cheaper per hour than the plane.

I can see how you wouldn't want to attend if you're paying on your own, but what is the big deal if the Navy is picking up the tab? Aero Sci really isn't that different from a liberal arts major. You can get an MBA after graduation and be prepared to go get a job in airline management. I'll be the first to admit I wish I had selected another major, but hey, flying 3 or 4 times a week for free isn't that bad. The city, however, is the sh*thole of the Southeast. Anyone who complains about Pensacola needs to come live here for a bit. This place makes me miss Pcola.

I've always wondered what is there.
As do the rest of the folks in FL. Other than a strip bar that I'm embarassed to say I know about, and down right ashamed to say that I've actually been inside (fraternity shenanigans), I know of nothing else in Micanopy.

The best part of all of daytona is.....Molly Browns...It's where the girls are...haha

I dated a girl who worked there...... And by dated I mean repeatedly tapped over the course of a month to include two incedents within view of the Beach Comber and one incedent on the hood of a car in a bank parking lot...... :D
