Online Grad Degrees - Major Schools

Anyone know of any other options on how to get the Navy to pay for a masters (besides NPS) as some of us don't have the GI Bll.

Graduate education Voucher is availble to URL officers to get a master's on off-duty hours. Obviously, this means you owe more time, but, whatever.

Owing more time isn't too much of an issue. I'd planned on staying in as long as possible. Of course, my wife may have other things to say about that. :icon_tong

You are half right....the program they offer is split between 40/60 online and residency.
This link shows the schools that offer FULL on-line graduate degrees...REAL ONES TOO!

http://www.princetonreview.com/mba/research/business_resources_online.asp

I have not really looked in about 2 years, but IU's Kelley school of business is in the TOP of MBA programs.
Half right my ass. Online degrees are a 1 or a 0.....they either are or they aren't.

Now, IU, however, you are dead on. They're a top 20 business school and they offer both an MBA and a MSFS that is done almost completely online. The MSFS has a 3 day (1.5 credit) residency requirement and the MBA has two 3 day (1.5 credit) residency requirements---one each year (2 year program).

With the GEV the time is concurrent with your existing obligation...so you may not owe time
Be careful. That isn't true for everyone. For SWO's, if you do GEV, you are agreeing to obligate yourself for DH school. Don't know about aviators, but we do have quite a few shore duty billets that allow the member to participate in a program called "18/12." You basically go to school part time while doing your military duties for 18 months. Then, the last 12 months, you get to go to school full time, with no military duties. The only thing you have to do is take the PRT. Most folks participating in that use the GEV.

Sounds familiar. :D

Except those other guys actually finished high school. :icon_lol:

I ask you, who's smarter? The guy with an engineering degree, or the guy with a 10th grade education doing the same job? The guy who finished HS then paid for college, or the guy who dropped out and had the Navy pay him O-3E pay w/ bonus to enjoy a free ride at a private Catholic university? There isn't an officer accession or graduate education program out there that offers more of a scam than mine. No regrets here. :D

The old Seaman to admiral program was the best deal in the Navy and you forgot to mention that the years that you’re in school count towards retirement.

You're just hyper-sensitive. It's a natural psychological function associated with separation anxiety.

Officers can use TA. If you get in-state, it can pay for most of your masters. It encurs 2 years extra from graduation, where NPS is 3 (for the EMBA prog. anyway)

I was looking into FAU for the fully online MBA. In-state tuition and they've got the certified program. Then I started writing the schedule and getting sick and tired of depending on IPs to actually teach students while they stressed out about papers, finals, etc, etc, etc. I then decided as an IP, it's unfair to sell out to operations (and ultimately student production) to advance your own career...so I'm not getting one now.

JPME, sure I can do that. But I'm not doing the masters...especially until I find a program I like. (which I'm looking at UND's aviation masters...)

Just my .02,
~D

I don't mean to threadjack, but can anyone shed some light on the possibilities of working on a traditional Master's program during a shore tour? For instance, can/do NROTC instructors (or other instructors, like at API) usually enroll in full-time day programs that aren't Navy sponsored?
