Pay Grades

It's based upon your time in service. Hence the color coded key at the bottom of the chart. I'm pretty sure that time starts when you become active duty (for an officer when you get commisioned). Didn't go through OCS so I really don't know the answer to that one.
 
You should note that while you're in BDCP you will be pay grade E-3 (possibly as high as E-6, if you're going to be a Nuke). You'll be paid at the O-1 pay grade after you're commissioned through OCS. Pretty sure everyone gets E-5 at OCS. I'm not currently a BDCP guy though...

I think in BDCP you'll get bumped up to E-5 upon graduation and hold that through OCS. If you're higher (for being a nuke) you'll hold E-6 while at OCS, or if you're like a clown we had who was nuke and referred someone to the program who got accepted, you'll be walkin' around OCS in poopies with an E-7 ID.

As for what you're paid when you comission, the huge advantage of BDCP is that you incur time in service, so alot of guys get paid O-1 with 2 years, then get the magical 3 year bump after being an Ensign for one year.
 
BDCP goes up to E-5 unless you are a prior and reached E-6+ before entering BDCP. You start at E-3 and may get a pay grade once for refering someone or maintaining Dean's List 2 semesters in a row. If you have not made E-5, you will get that when you show up to OCS, not when you graduate.

For Nukes, it is NUPOC. They start at E-5 and can progress to E-7 for the reference and grades.

Actually the Dean's List bump is not about making the Dean's List. Line G in the BDCP contract states that the BDCPer will be "meritoriously advanced one paygrade for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for two consecutive semesters." The recruiters' handbooks still state "Dean's List", hence the confusion that takes place. I had to fight for my bump on that one....

G. That upon earning 90 semester or 135 quarter hours, I will be meritoriously advanced one paygrade to paygrade E-4 for having made the Dean's List for two consecutive semester or three consecutive quarters while enrolled in Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program.
 
Mine doesn't say Dean's List, it just says 3.5 GPA. Now I have to fight because someone doesn't think that a summer semester doesn't count for the GPA bump. I have a feeling I'm going to get screwed.

At my school, you weren't eligible for Dean's list unless you were a full time student. Summer sessions required 9 credits to be full time, so that may have something to do with it.
 
OK so 0-1 when you're finished with OCS. After that, how do you get up to 0-2, 0-3, etc as a pilot? What does the typical timeframe look like throughout your 10 year career in the Navy?
 
2 yrs to O-2, another 2 for O-3, most people get O-4 around 9-11 years of commissioned service. That's the "average" promotion path...if you screw up it could certainly hold you up.

I made the required 3.5 GPA under a full time load, but wasn't awarded the promotion because the dean's list at my university required more hours than the minimum for full time status. It was frustrating - I brought it up with my recruiter and he said there was nothing he could do. That was 3 or 4 years ago, mind you, so things could have changed for the guys currently in the program.
