So...I have some higher res pics from my form solo that I wanted to use as my avatar. Trouble is, that despite all my efforts in photoshop, I can't get the file small enough to upload. I understand that the max size is 150x150 pixels, but at that image size, I still have a 46 kb file...well above the limit for upload.

Apparently I am a technological idiot. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I generally use PSP vice Photoshop, but there ought to be a setting when you're saving(save as) your jpeg where you can select the amount of compression for the file and that will ultimately determine its size. Try monkeying around with that.

Is it a .bmp or a .jpg? Their compression rates are different, and I think that you will be able to convert a .bmp to a .jpg and get the file size a lot smaller. Of course the image won't be quite as detailed, but it won't matter for something as small as an avatar.

Kick ass, take names, ask questions later
Have you changed the resolution of the image? Typically web graphics are at 72 dpi. I believe if you go to the "Image" menu in Photoshop and click on "Image Size" it brings up a menu where you can change the resolution. If you haven't tried that try it, if you have, try the jpeg thing that others metioned. Photoshop likes to keep things as .psd files if you make changes to an image so check the file extension and see what's what.

I use ifranview. It is easy to use and free. Without it I could never use my awesome hair metal record covers as my avatars. ROCK ON!!!

So a few more details...sorry should have mentioned this earlier...

The file is a jpeg and I am saving to jpeg format...the image size is 150x150, although I have tried down to 100x100 with no real improvement, and I am saving on the lowest quality setting possible in photoshop. (0 on that little sliding scale under the "save as" options) The file sixe is just under 40kb...Oh...and resolution is at 72 dpi.
