1 week to OCS: what should I memorize?

I found out that I got final select a couple of days ago and it also looks like I will be reporting to OCS next Sunday. I feel physically and mentally prepared, but, since I will be attending OCS shortly, can some OCS graduates provide me with a quick and dirty list of things I should memorize over the course of next week?

I appreciate the help.

Code of Conduct
General Orders of a Sentry
Chain of Command..

Enlisted and Officer Rank insignia for Navy AND Marines.
From GySGT up, it can be confusing to the unfamilar. You DO NOT want to call a Master Gunnery Sergeant a First Sergeant. Trust me on that one..

Oh, and DO NOT SLEEP in the Barber Shop.. I can still hear "THANK YOU! SKODA!" if I think about it.. Kmac will get that one.

Your name, don't forget your name.

No joke, had a guy in my class who had to look at his name tag when the DI was yelling at him - he was that shook up. Hella funny though.

You're pretty much expected to know everything on http://www.nsgreatlakes.navy.mil/otcp/ocs/memorization.htm now since it's on the website and anyone with enough desire to want to go to OCS should probably have taken at least a cursory glance at it. Since there's only one RLP now, it's ALL tested during that RLP.

  • Chain of Command - Should know the structure if not the names by the time you get there.
  • Code of Conduct - DEFINITELY should know before you get there
  • General Orders of a Sentry - DEFINITELY should know before you get there
  • Breast insignia/sleeve devices - Good idea - and it's not that difficult. Probably don't want to call one of the firsts a gunny or master guns a first....
  • Naval Mission and Definitions of Warfare - pretty straight forward
  • Navy Weapon Systems - Can probably learn when you get there - especially if you're not familiar with them they can be hard
  • Phonetic Alphabet - umm... easy?
  • Naval Aircraft - Depending on your designator this could be hard or easy - I didn't know it when I got there
  • 14 Leadership Traits - Start familiarizing yourself with "JJ DID TIE BUCKLE" and the definitions of all of them - yes, they are testable.
  • Common Definitions - These pretty much make sense...
  • Ships of the U.S. Fleet - Familiarize yourself with the Types at least. Know the mission and primary weapon if you can.
  • Star Spangled Banner - if you don't know it... well... wow... just wow...
  • Anchors Aweigh - not usually tested, but I would hate to see someone in my room not know the lyrics when they're asked to sing it during RLP.
  • Marine Hymn - same as Anchors Aweigh, but moreso.
  • Navy Hymn - Meh....
  • As was mentioned - know the rank structure, but that comes with the insignia too...
  • Sailor’s Creed - we had to say this anytime our chief came in the room. Practice it a few times at least before you go.

So I know that whether you got liberty after week 4 usually depended on how you did on the RLP (right?). If there's only one RLP now, what happens if you fail it?

If your class fails to secure on RLP, the next chance is the next graded evolution - usually Drill Comp (at least, that was when my class secured).

Holy crap. I never would have in a million years remembered that on my own, but now that you bring it up, I think the imagery is seared into my skull. Fun times.

Everything MB said was dead on. Don't be too good at the memorization though, or they'll make you Knowledge Body.
