Best Naval Aviation movies

The Bridges at Toko-Ri

Quick story: my son, who is now 28 with kids of his own, crawled up on my lap and watched that with me when he was about 4 (couldn't believe he stayed focused that long.) At the end of the movie he said to me, "Daddy, I don't want you to fly off the boat NOOO MORE! I want you to fly off the BIG SIDEWALK!" Brought tears to my eyes while laughing at his understanding of Navy life.

Back on topic, I'm awaiting a movie called "Proud" which was recommended to me. It is allegedly about the only Black crew to take a warship into combat during WII. Quite honestly, I've never heard this story so I am not sure if this is based upon a real event or not so if anyone can provide some additional information, I'd be obliged.
 
Anyone ever check out "Threshold, the Blue Angel's Experience"?? I think it came out in the early 70's.... great phantom flying shots, including an eye watering solo dirty roll right after rotate.
 
The Great Santini. One of the better guys' movies that has some emotional crap thrown in for the ladies.
 
Oh yeah, "Midway." Cinematoghaphy a bit weak, but a great telling of the tale.
 
The BEST -- overall: The Bridges @ Toko-Ri ... what other movie has a line like this that becomes eternal: "Where DO we get such men .... ?" :)

Also worth checkin' out, since no one has mentioned it: 1944's "WING & A PRAYER" .... story is 1940-ish (what else?) , but the snippets of WW2 carrier shipboard life are worth the time.

What about Pearl Harbor?? Alec Baldwin was a GREAT Doolittle...:p JK...that was/is an abortion of a war movie.
 
McCale's NAVY, but obviously NOT an Aviation themed movie..

Also, Down Periscope is pretty good as well, but again NOT aviation related.

Speed and Angels, but it's not a "movie" per say. I guess the new Transformers movie is supposed to have an aircraft carrier transformer so expect some naval aviation there.
 
hmmm...not exactly a Naval aviation movie, but it has a few Naval aviators - "The Right Stuff." I also thought "Rescue Dawn" was very good.
 
even though Behind Enemy Lines had plenty of cheese, and wasn't the best SERE training movie out there, I have to personally give it props becuase the movie earned me and bud lift tickets at Big Bear.
My friend and I were at Camp Pend. for a ground safety officer school via the Corps for 2 weeks, (easiest class I've ever taken) and we went out to the monday night football game going on at one of the sports bars in Ocean Side. During Halftime there was a contest for using current movie titles and turning them into Porn Titles. Ours was "Enemy from Behind", we got second to the hot chick (of course), but turns out she already had a season pass so we traded her a soccer shirt for the pair of tickets.

And thats not the only reason that movie has meaning for me, 2nd was one of my DH's had a speaking part in the movie. White coat kneeling down talking to Owen Wilson about the football kick early in the movie. He had another speaking part with Gene Hackman but it got cut.

Sorry for the long read...but thats why that movie has plenty of Naval Aviation meaning for me.

Still though, Final Countdown is the BEST (haven't seen or cant recall any of the WWII movies that were probably great)
