I've heard many different takes on the vision requirement to become a Marine Corps aviator and would like to know which, if any, that I've heard are right.

1. As long is it's correctable to 20/20, you're good so long as you use a non-lasik treatment.
2. If it's not 20/20 uncorrected, you're screwed.
3. It needs to be 20/20 initially, but if it slips after that first flight physical you're ok as long as you can correct it to 20/20.

Anyone know the truth?

Thanks,
Brett

20/40 or better uncorrected (correctable to 20/20) for the application.

LATER down the line (once in flight school) the requirement drops to 20/100 uncorrected (correctable to 20/20).

PRK/LASEK are approved surgeries

Please use the search function. I KNOW I personally have posted this like 3 times in very recent history on AW.

However, FYI, if you don't have 20/20 uncorrected coming in, you are not allowed to fly jets, ever, ever. Also, have to be 5'10" and shorter to fly jets for the Marine Corps.

Huh, could have sworn it was 20/42 for vision requirement :D

Yes, I'm bored, no anthros to input right now . . .

So, I could not fly jets in the Marine Corpse because of my towering 5’10” ¾ stature?

Read his post. He said you can't get jets if you're over 5'10. I think I remember seeing something about a hobbit clause in some anthro instruction from NAMI.

You can only fly helos and C-130s.... good luck!

You sure...?

I had an interview with a Marine Captain and current F18 pilot and he most definitely was taller than 5'10. I stand at 6'3 and we were pretty much eye to eye when we were standing...

Actually they just changed the requirements. You MUST be between 5'11" and 6'2" in order to select jets now. We've been losing too many jets lately and they think its due to the tall ones not being able to think properly under G's and that's why they just implemented this change. Makes sense to me!

I know it's the net but dude, are you serious?? Don't earn an Airwarriors callsign before it's time. I would proably assign "fucktool" to ya in this case.

Calm down... The guy said 5'10 is the limit for jet pilots. I said I met one who was taller than 5'10, so that must be wrong. How does that make me a "fucktool"? Deductive logic = against the rules?

What some people need to remember is that not everybody here is already a pilot or in the Navy or Marines yet. Some of us are heading in that direction, some of us are just trying to get more info. Doesnt mean you should all piss and moan and get your panties in a bunch when somebody doesn't know everything there is to know about everything in the aviation community. Everybody here was a noob "fucktool" at some point too. /endrant
