Another USMCR Squadron Bites the Dust..

All of 769's aircraft and a portion of 772's aircraft will go to HMH-366, the new 53E squadron soon to be standing up in October.

I know there was a big Powerpoint brief somone posted in another thread about 3 or 4 months ago that depicts the USMC's plans for all of their squadrons for the next 10 or so years. Which ones are converting from reserve to active, which ones will be in cadre then reactivated, which ones convert to the V-22 and the F-35 and when. I think HeyJoe posted it.

HMLA 775 is also on the Chopping block

October 2008. The Det up in Johnsville becomes HMLA-773 Det B (Every Reserve Snake Squadron will be 773 Related )

New Snake Squadron on the East Coast, HMLA-467, Stands up in October along with HMH-366. Any Helo Bubba's know if 366 will retain their Hammerheads nickname from the Kaneohe Days?

The USMC Aviation Plan mentioned by Flash can be found here:

I'll be surprised if they don't find a way to kill VMFA-112 to effectively end the USMC Reserve Fighter Era (Outside of the Yuma Bad Guy Squadron).

Dude, you know to much about this stuff for being in college. You are destined to be a Hawkeye NFO.

Keeping VMFA 112 I think will boil down to funding. Is there enough money to keep them up and running. Secondly, can the unit activate and jump in the fight - by that I mean what conditions are the aircraft. It is sad to watch them go one at a time.
It would be interesting to see how things will pan out when then 35's come on board. I am sure you will be half way through your career !!

Dumb question, but with all these reserve outfits going away, what will we have as a reserve? I am still NORDO and using my PRC-90 (cell phone) and can't read that PDF.

Not too much, To Say the Least.

Marines
HMM-774 (Phrogs out of Norfolk)
HMM-765 (Phrogs out of Edwards)
HMLA-773 (AH-1/UH-1s out of Atlanta)
HMLA-773 Det A (New Orleans)
HMLA-773 Det B (Johnsville,PA)
VMFA-112 (F/A-18s out of Fort Worth)
VMFT-401 (Doesn't really count being Adversary; But still technically Reserve; F-5s out of Yuma)
-
Navy Wise..
VAW-77 (Hummers out of Atlanta; Soon to be New Orleans)
VFA-204 (Hornets out of New Orleans)
VAQ-209 (Prowlers out of Andrews. Dead when the Growler is up and running)
VFC-12 (Hornets out of Oceana; Adversary so doesn't exactly count).
VFC-13 (F-5s out of Fallon; Same as VFC-12)
VFC-111 (F-5s out of KW; See above)
HSL-60 (SH-60s out of Mayport)
Obvious VR Squadrons

Outside of the Adversary Squadrons and Helo Units...There isn't alot there Fixed Wing Wise. And the 77 Hummers here at Atlanta are Drug Interdiction; Not a boat squadron).

The cupboard is definitely running dry, It seems.

We'll have the Reserve that the senior leadership in the Navy wants us to have. Whether that's a good, bad, or indifferent thing remains to be seen, but it will plainly be different than the Reserve Force we've known for a long time.

MB, you need an iPhone. No problem opening the .ppt, all 132 slides!

As for the reserves, does the USMC or USN actually use them like they were meant to be used, or are they more like a flying club these days?
