Just to clarify - because the damn names keep changing - the NWU is the Blue Digis. CUU is the woodland cammies. The black-and-tans are the "Service Uniform".

I stand corrected then, I've yet to see any sailors wearing either cammies. And for the record; I think the black-and-tans are ugly.

I saw some NWU in San Diego, and they don't look as bad in person as they do in the pictures. This just means that they're ugly instead of ass ugly.

Either way, it's good that the Navy is allowing something other a service uniform out in town.

Hey intern, get me a Campari!

Wait, so you're telling me it's ok to wear those ridiculous things in public, but NOT AWGs? This is an outrage.

I think the enlisted variant actually looks okay, now that I see them everywhere.

The officer/chief version with the dayglo yellow nametapes I still think looks like ass. Seriously, why couldn't we go with black text, or silver for everybody?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but what the hell does the Navy need with camouflage? I don't think we need to blend into the big bad ocean. Something tells me that enormous Warships make camouflage a bit moot....

Its not so we blend in with the ocean, its so the ink and grease stains blend in with the uniform.

So you can wear this out in town while buying milk at Albertsons?
Lots of traffic I've seen would indicate otherwise. Emergency stops only, just like bags. It only gets more restrictive the further on down the decision chain it gets. Not that I would be caught dead looking like a splattered smurf in a suit anyway.

All the traffic you have seen indicating otherwise was probably prior to the message being released this week to the contrary.

You can stop at Albertson's and get milk while wearing a bag. You just can't stop at Alberton's and get milk along with $300 dollars worth of other groceries in the bag. Quick stops.

Either way, it's good that the Navy is allowing something other a service uniform out in town.

When the NWU was first implemented, the restrictions on it were almost as stringent as poopie suits. Now, you can wear them commuting to/from work or to grab lunch during working hours, which is the almost the same as wash khakis -- seems like the higher ups decided to solve the "you can't go to lunch in your working uniform" debate. However, you still can't go "out in town" in them.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but what the hell does the Navy need with camouflage?
The Navy doesn't need camoflauge, but apparently the overall consensus re: utilities, or should I say the "prison uniform," was rather negative. The theory is that blue camoflauge makes the Navy look more militaristic while also hiding paint and other such stuff that would arise from maintenance. Only problem is that blue camoflauge looks pretty damn ridiculous.
