Stavridis is first Admiral to command the traditionally Army/Air Force COCOM (note: Marines were first to break that traditional) and second admiral to be chosen to lead back-to-back Combatant Commands

Admiral Stavridis

I had the pleasure to meet the Admiral and his wife nearly two years ago in Annapolis. A rare individual and a great leader.

Pretty sharp guy and prolific author as well. Here's one of the classics under his name:

Oh, that old chestnut? ;)

Seriously though, I'm glad the Navy seems to be (at least in my eyes) presenting more high-quality flags in the joint command billets...it looks like we are grabbing a bigger piece of the command pie at the top of the pile. Stavridis is one Admiral we are lucky to have.

Following a year in Viet Nam I got orders to J-2 at HQ USEUCOM. At the time there were 13 Generals and Admirals there. VERY Air force, and lots of Army. Very few Navy, even fewer Marines. As a result, we all made it a point to support one another.

Great to see Navy stepping in.

BTW, a great set of orders if you have to be on a staff.
