Have seen quite a few F-18's around KEFD as of late; is there a detachment there or do Navy/USMC pilots frequent the spot for training?
 
Ellington is a joint-use civilian/military field (Air National Guard maintains a presence there). Additionally, these former bases see a lot of military traffic as they often have less civilian traffic than their local counterparts and have runways just as long, if not longer. Airnav.com indicates that 27% of traffic at EFD is military.
 
Yeah KEFD gets a lot of military traffic. The FBO down there caters to military and like was said above there is big runways and until a few years ago a F-16 squadron based there...
 
There is a freaking private movie theater / "briefing room" in the mil only section......and I don't think I was ever there when there wasn't free beer on ice in the kitchenette.

No kidding? How the hell does that work on an out and back? Is it the same free 12 pack that's been there for 5 years or something?

They have "Q" rooms for pilots and also give cars to crews. I believe there's also free porn in the rooms. I'm pretty sure the beer goes quickly and often.
 
I took a T-45 from Kingsville there last year for the Wings over Houston airshow and stayed at the 'Q' there. Friggin best deal around, free stocked kitchen pretty much for your entire stay, and a TUB of beer, covered in ice, all weekend, and a car if you need it. The theater gets every direct tv channel IIRC, nothing like boobies on a jumbotron :icon_smil

"you believe"? oh come Gator, quit playing dumb 'cause your not fool'in anybody... you know damn well they have free porn (well, it's the playboy channel) in their rooms! it's also on the big screen in the kitchenette area. ...and I might be mistaking, but I seem to recall watching the playboy channel in the theater room...

I've been to EFD a few times. Their military lounge is great, a lot of free food. Someone told me that the big screen TV in there gets naughty channels too, but I forgot to check last time I went.
