How long does a Vasectomy down you?

Hypothetical Question for any Flight Doc's or *snipped* Pilots out there:

Suppose a helicopter pilot were getting a vasectomy... and all went well... How long would he HAVE to be Med Down (either according to the Doc's requirement, or according to the the beliefs of the Pilot).

I know some of you out there have experience in this?
 
I have two answers to this...
I got snipped in Advanced (-12's) on a Thursday and flew the following Tuesday...never actually "went down" on paper. I was physically ill (sweating, pale, threw up in the head on deck afterward) by the end of the flight as it was one of those I spent most of the time with one leg or the other holding a rudder pedal out. You can getback up to speed over a long weekend. It just ain't fun.

I wouldn't repeat that performance...wear a jock strap, take a solid week.

A week at the longest. Biggest deal is being able to strap yourself into the helo without pain and then being able to move well enough that you can egress if the situation called for it.

Most folks tend to do them during the transit portion of a deployment since there is no flying for a week+.
 
Got the combat "V" underway. Less than a week to be FMC again.
 
My XO had a bad experience during his so he gave me plenty of time. Procedure Wednesday morning...flew the next Wednesday...but in a C-12 no real Gs to worry about. I cycled the ice pack on and off for two days while chillin' on the coach. One surprising thing was the vibration from the plane made me nauseous the first few flights.

FWIW, take the antibiotic given to you and take it real easy the first couple of days. A buddy of mine blew both those off because the doc told him it was "an easy, clean procedure." A few days later one nut was the size of a softball.
 
Snivved out Friday for the snippage, back to work Monday, fly on Tuesday.

Doc said, "If you need a down chit I can get you one, but just because you're getting your balls cut doesn't mean you have to become a little b!#ch!"

Ah, Navy medicine.

On TR back in 1991-92, the surgeon used to let anyone who wanted perform vasectomies under his supervision with patient consent. Many of the ship's company Os signed up both to get and to give. When the Big XO had his, we had a raffle to see who go to "chop off the XO's balls".
 
I would neither let another man who is not a medical professional touch my junk, nor would I want to handle another man's junk. As is often said, "Stay in your lane!"
 
When I had mine done at Barbers Pt back in '78 the Flt Surgeon asked if I minded if some corpsmen observed. I had just been given a HUGE shot of valium. I didn't give a shit who or what observed or cut. :eek: Took me about 5 days to get back on the schedule.
 
As obvious as this seems, this is one of those times when you do EXACTLY what the Doc says. EXACTLY.

It's not like when you feel bad and take the medicine until you feel better then go back to doing whatever you want.

The vast majority of folks with postoperative problems didn't follow the doctors orders. This includes things like mowing the lawn, lifting heavy stuff, and dryfiring your weapon.

You have a liberty chit to sit on your butt all day watching football and drinking beer. USE IT! You should also have a fair amount of sympathy from the wife who might get you more beer or even make nachos or something.

Don't screw it up.

First float our stateroom was the keeper of the porn for the MEU (don't know if you guys have 'em on the west coast, but on the east coast - there's a box o' porn that gets cross-decked, there's shit in there from the early '80s.). Our XO kept swinging by to get porn during the translant home - said something about "doctor's orders"...
