If OCS is similar to boot camp in terms of holidays the answer is yes and no. You will "have off" for the holidays but you will have limitations such as distances you can travel. I'm not sure what OCS is but if your home on record is further than the maximum distance allowed you're not going home. Instead you will go to basically an "adoption" family to spend the holidays with and you'll still have to spend it in uniform. It's more like liberty than leave. You'll have a free day but will still have to go back to the barracks at a certain time like 1900 or so. I didn't spend a holiday in boot camp but my sister had liberty Christmas day in which she could leave at like 0700 and we had to have her back by 1800. Boot camp was in Great Lakes and we lived in Milwaukee so she was within her mile limit to come home. She brought a fellow recruit with her who was from California so she had dinner with us and called her family in private before we took them both back. Basically you'll have some free time, but it's very limited.

Again that is if OCS is similar to boot camp in this regard.
 
So even if we have a day off for thanksgiving we still should be graduating on Dec 8th, correct?
 
I was there for Thanksgiving last year and unless the Command changes policy, it was a 96 hour liberty. Depending on what phase you were dictated how much freedom you had; as Candios, we were granted overnight liberty, and the younger classes either got on base liberty, off base liberty, or off base liberty with alcohol authorized. A couple of my classmates who had family in the local area also had Special Liberty chits to go outside the liberty radius and stay with their families, so that may be an option as well.

But don't worry too much about it, your class team will brief you as you get closer to the holidays and you will have plenty of fun and games to keep you busy in the meantime ;)
