USN Another call to "bring back S-3's" (Vikings are Zombies)

Is there such a thing? The whole industry is nothing more than click bait and old men yelling at clouds.

Speaking of old men yelling at clouds and click bait, @ChuckMK23, what does the pink ribbon BHR have to do with any of this? I’m slightly out of that shot but can tell you that the whole photoex took maybe 10min to execute during a dead period in an airplan. A bunch of sailors who decided to support a good cause mean some we’re going to lose the next war?

Probably the T-39 is the closest - they brought a bunch of them back out of the boneyard when the Citations didn’t work out - but the type wasn’t completely out of service. There were still CT-39s and civil Sabreliners flying around. Other than that, not to my knowledge.

Maybe, but to put a platform back in the pipeline, rags, logistics on a boat. Almost like introducing a new platform into the fleet, except for the NATOPS.

No, not that comes to mind.

Those were officially contract birds out and plenty of OV-10's were still flying for the US government and others, not so much with the S-3's with only NASA flying one or two birds.

The OV-10s belonged (and still do) to NASA, and were loaned to the Navy and flown by active duty Naval Aviators. And it wasn’t Afghanistan they deployed to. But I agree it’s not really an example of a platform being resurrected - it was two aircraft with no practical ability to bring more online.

Ok ok! Point conceded- I was being snarky.

Tangential, but a test pilot at VX-23 was made the project officer for the evaluation on the OV-10's capability to do the Navy's intended mission. What a cool project that would have been!
 
To me and my knowledge of aviation history this has a lot of parallels to the Air Force procuring retired Navy A-1's and making that platform superb in its intended mission. It is possible, despite the good idea fairies.
