I had forgotten that Goldblum and Shearer were in that film.

Interesting that in the Congressional letter to the Navy, they are asking for info about all pilots and NFOs. They could have limited the scope to just TOPGUN or even TACAIR but chose to go all in. https://static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics/documenttools/e3e06f92d74f277b/e98c3c29-full.pdf
On one level, it's bizarre that they lead off their letter referencing TG, and it suggests (per usual) a lack of broader knowledge on the subject of their inquiry. One imagines that they used that as an attention grabber, or because their staffers thought it was cool. I'm sure the folks at NAWDC are having fun collating all the materials for this RFI, but it probably belongs in NAMI's lane.

Yeah, it reads like NAMI would have that info, if anyone. But my buddy at CNAF says they won’t be surprised if they end up playing in the response as well.

These can be painful. We get to respond to random congressionals, or to the Governor's office when a constituent experiences a perceived sleight, or has a question about the crashed UFOs that we're obviously storing under the island of Kauai.

I have good faith that Congressman Roscoe P Coltrane is on the level at the oversight level. These people are highly dedicated to their Article 1 responsibilities.

Edit: sorry I forgot to add this :(

High probability. Rather than develop a good case for the inquiry, color it with "cool things." i.e. Top Gun.
To me very similar to the poor recruiters who deal with "I'll sign up if... fill in the black (Ranger, Recon, SEAL, Special Ops, anything sounding cool).

On my way out, I did get to handle some absurd Congrint stupid shit. Like, a little old lady claiming that Ospreys were hovering over her property at 4 AM in SD.

I mean how much bandwidth do you appropriate to this stuff? I think I just sent HHQ an email saying that KNKX and KNFG were closed during that hour, so get bent.

I can imagine it's way worse with what you deal with.

Headline article from the New York Times December 8, 2024. I am brand new to this website but an old man with an existential matter that needs to be addressed.

The Journalist, Mr. David Philipps was courageous to go public with Operation Odin's Eye. Just wondering why there has been total silence about this since then from our community. ?

respectfully, Sully

What are we supposed to be saying about it? Sounds like it is being studied, which is good. If a causal link is found, then there will be something to talk about.

Brett 327 Are you unaware that there is a causal link?

I've read the same article. My skin is in the game. A mentor of mine and former deployment roomatte was one of the suicides they mention. I still dont buy it fully. Was this a problem in F-4's or F-14's or F-8's? All did cats and traps and high G BFM. Did they just never realize it was a problem? Or is something fundamentally different now? Another factor that is actually causing this? I've had my head banged around on all of the above, and add in rapid cabin altitude fluctuations routinely back in the day that would be instant downers for a jet today. I have no suicidal ideations and never have. It isnt a "causal link" just because some article said it was. I'm open to being convinced otherwise, but this article did not do that. Have not seen any official findings from this apparent study, and I would have been if they existed.
