Road to 350: What Does the US Navy Do Anyway?

That said, even in "normal times," you might be surprised by the various assets that have been pushed down there to support one of the primary SOUTHCOM missions. And no, I'm not talking about UNITAS.
I'm aware, and maintain that based on previous iterations of the NDS, it was/is of questionable value; however, since we're now using such documents for jingoistic pandering, who can say.

The younger generation in Japan is more inclined towards mil spending than the older ones. Problem is population shrinkage there.
The younger generation in Japan is more interested in being brainwashed by weird fucking videos than doing pretty much anything else.

We're about to be there.

Dont complain, it's a reasonable response to the title of the thread... Apparently the US Navy, during a government shutdown that, inarguably, has some pretty impactful side-effects, sponsors/holds political rallies under the guise of a 250th celebration.
Political rally pretending to be a Navy 250 celebration. The stands full of junior enlisted in uniform cheering, smartphones waving about is in stark contrast to the disciplined behavior of FO/GO at Quantico.

I noticed POTUS in a very XXXXL Massif flight jacket. Good job SUPPO!

But hey, Happy 250 Navy!

We are getting wokeness' and 'losers' out of the military, Trump tells Navy at Norfolk

But, what's the US Navy to do? Who's going to point out the absolutely reprehensible degree of politicization going on here (and elsewhere)? They'll just get fired. This is not a partisan or "TDS" post. The discomfort would be just as strong if team blue were doing this. The bedrock of the professional military ethic is being prostituted for populist news clips. There could be an electoral clean sweep in 2028 (unlikely), and it would still take a generation of service-members to undo the damage.

Honestly, solid points.

A former HC-6 squadronmate is a contract sim instructor at NAS NORVA in the MH-60S - he teaches both CAT 1 pilots and new aircrew (Aircrew have a dedicated sim, who knew!!). He remarks about the political divide between the Nugget Replacement Pilots and the enlisted Aircrew is significant and worrisome.

Honestly curious on how much training in boot camp or beyond our Sailors get on avoiding partisanship compared to mids at USNA/NROTC. I started NROTC in fall 2004 and being an election year within the first weeks of school it was beaten into our heads to avoid partisan associations as a midshipman. We were encouraged to go to talks on campus, join College Republicans/Democrats as we desired, but to make sure we were clean on the break. A couple weeks into the semester I and a bunch of mids went to a speaker and it happened to be on a day we were in uniform. I can’t remember the topic, it was political in nature but not explicitly partisan, however at one point the speaker basically polled the audience by show of hands on support. My buddies and I did not participate and the speaker actually recognized and applauded how we did not participate. I contrast that to what I saw today.

It's helpful to examine who is generally targeted by populist messages. That is by NO means a jab at our enlisted Sailors - I'm the kid of a retired Chief, but it's useful to think about the populist message, and the cultural/organizational lines it tries to exploit.

This discussion is directly relevant to the title of this thread, because it goes directly to our ability to function and capitalize upon the immense trust the civilian population places in those with guns, missiles, and bombs, and the faith they'll be used appropriately and responsibly.
