I've yet to make my reservations, but I need to lol. I'm just waiting to confirm with my recruiter that I can cancel my travel arrangements they made for me so I can go out earlier.

Yeah, I talked to my OR and he said to go ahead and call and tell them you have orders for May 3rd and want to check in on the 2nd. I made my Reservations at the Newport Chalet today. The Navy lodge is apparently already full the 2nd. Here's the number I used 401-841-7900 (tried calling Gateway inns and suites and they transferred me to Newport Chalet)

^^ I called the Newport Chalet and got transferred to NGIS but they set me up for May 2nd. I didn't even bother trying the Navy lodge.
did the exact samee thing. when do you think we can check in the 2nd? noon?

No idea but I'd assume around 1500-1600. I don't recall them saying specifically, they just told me a check-in building and reservation number.

Just made my reservations at the NGIS for Saturday May 2nd, I already feel like I am saying good bye to everybody at home, lol. If I am there early I might just scope the place out. They said if we are there prior to 1500 we can still try and check in.
