An FYI on scores for SNA boards, scores that may get a person select on one board on another may not, we just had a person with a 7 PFAR and 3.0 GPA get selected.

To date I have not seen a person with an 8 or 9 on PFAR not be selected, 7 PFAR is 50/50, I have never seen a person with a 6 PFAR selected regardless of GPA or flight experience.

Hey everyone. I just took the ASTB last Friday and got 8/8/8/60. I didn't think it was too bad considering I went in to the recruiter's on Monday and had 3 days to study.

Hi everyone took the test Jan 9th and scored less than I expected! Studied for 4 months and 3/4/3 41..... very dissapointed. The math and mechanical portions were most definately were my problem areas. The nautical, aviation, and supplemental seemed easy and finished very early on those sections. Does anyone have any reccomendations to improve my math and mechanical scores? I have never been the best at math but need to improve my scores to even consider anything.

If anyone has any suggestions let me know. Thanks, I plan on retaking in a month.

It is just my opinion, but I feel that getting better at the math and mechanical problems, the first thing you have to do is know and understand the basic concepts (e.g. setting up algebra problems, the basic concepts of simple machines, etc). Once that is accomplished, it is a matter of practicing your speed on such questions and practicing -how- to take a timed multiple choice test that will help advance your scores. You know the line, "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?"

I took the ASTB last Friday, 20 Jan 2012. I didn't study as hard as I should have, the OSO sent me a study guide gouge which was helpful. Times on the math test beat me. Overall I ended up with a 5/7/5 46.
I'm applying for a SNA slot with the USMC. I have single and multi private pilots certifcate and I'm almost finished with my instrument rating. The OSO said I did well and that I didn't need to take it again, but reading on here makes me think I actually did pretty poorly.

Hi I was wondering if yall could help me with a couple math problems. I am retaking my ASTB test this upcoming tuesday and am trying to improve in the parts I had the most trouble in.

1. The hour hand of a clock is 3 ft long. How many ft does the tip of this hand move between 1300 and 1700?
The answer is 2π but im not sure how they got it. I'm sure it is simple and i'm just missing something.

2. The sum of v50 + 3v72 is?
The answer for this one is 23v2.

Thanks for yall's help and all the links posted on here. It has been a great amount of info to prepare for the ASTB.

1) From 1300 to 1700 is from 1:00pm - 5:00pm on the clock, four hours on a 12 hour clock, so 1/3 of the circumference which is what the tip of the 3 ft long hour hand is. The radius then is 3ft. C=(pi)2r. we want 1/3 of C. So C= ((pi)2(3))/3 = (pi)2. (Algebra wise: let x= distance tip moves and r=3. C=3x. 3x=(pi)(2)(3). Solve for x. Divide each side by 3. x=(pi)(2))

2) I don't understand this one.
