I took the test yesterday and got 6-6-7-55. I'm going for Navy SNA. I've checked the NAMI site and saw that something like 26.9% of test takers had scores that good or better (for AQR and PFAR). I'm really wanting to know where I stand. I would think that scoring in the top 1/4 would be good enough, but my recruiter told me to stay even-keeled. Really, I just want to fly and might go to whoever takes me first (Marines or Navy). All help is appreciated, boys.
Also, 3.1 GPA from University of Kentucky (Finance). Very involved in high school athletics and Fraternity.
rbwill,
Many people before you have been in the same situation. For OCS, it boils down to the needs of the Navy (and Marine Corps). While the ASTB is used as part of your selection, it's not the only thing they look at. Grades, Degree, community involvment, and Letters of recommendation all play into getting selected. The Navy is looking at the whole person.
Your percentage quote above is really not comparing Apple to Apples. The ASTB is taken by Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. How those scores are used is all up the the individual service. Another variable is wether the scores were used for NROTC, Naval Academy, or OCS. NROTC and Naval Academy have a larger number of slots as compared to OCS. As an OCS guy, you are not competing against other OCS guys for a flight slot. There are also guys&gals that take the ASTB and do nothing with it. So the stat is just that....and not worth that much. I thought if anyone would know that, it would be a Finance major.
Listen to your recruiter! It's now a waiting game. Good luck.
