Keep it in inches and set up the equation as P_1=P_2 so you can balance the system.
P_1=P_2
F_1/A_1=F_2/A_2
F_1/36=300/376
F_1 = 28.7 lbs
I was able to get 75 lbs by using feet and forgetting to divide by 2 here after multiplying 300 by 0.25.
F_1/0.25=300/2

If the board to the left was placed in water, in what orientation would it float?
Answer is B higher than A. Can someone explain why? Would they not float at the same level since they are the same weight?

The size of the boxes matter. Box B is bigger than box a. The formula to balance a lever is force x distance = force x distance. So the center of gravity of each box has to be the same distance from the fulcrum in order for both boxes float at the same level. The center of gravity for box b is slightly closer to the middle, therefore it will float a little higher than box a.

I took the ASTB-E today and scored a 55 6/5/7. Obviously, I’m disappointed with my PFAR score, as I was close to passing. I will retake next month. Any tips to raise PFAR?
The sections I struggled most with were Physics and Nautical and Aviation History. I’m 27 and haven’t taken physics since HS. I just didn’t study enough for Aviation History.
Math was pretty easy. I actually used a GMAT prep book and found I was over prepared in that area.
Good luck to everyone taking their test soon.

I was searching for a way to study for the Aviation/Nautical information portion of the test and found that a lot of people have made flashcards for that section on Quizlet. I combined a bunch of them into one and it's really helped me study. The Quizlet "learn" option is a great way to memorize them. Because the pipe on the outlet side of B doesn't empty, its a dead end pipe. Valve D would have to be open to allow the spillage to outflow since valve D appears to open to another system/open pipe

I would recommend looking at Quizlet flashcards online regarding the mechanical comprehension section, most of the questions in that section will not be equation based except maybe a question or two regarding fulcrums. Also, do not underestimate the importance of the NAFTI in regards to PFAR. They are looking for team-oriented, respectful, and attentive candidates, make sure you choose wisely. Lastly, I would recommend that you make sure you are familiar with all types of naval aircrafts that I have been used in combat and what specific role they played.
I was able to raise my ASTB from [44 - 4,5,4] to a [55 - 7,8,7] after emphasizing those areas. Good luck.

Hope everyone is doing well. I am a VMI NROTC 2/C Midshipman compiling my package for selection next year. I will be applying SNA first SNFO second. I have taken the ASTB twice and have the current score of 5/6/6. I know these scores are by no means a homer, but are selectable. My question is, do I risk the third test, knowing that those will be the scores I have to carry on. My first attempt was a 4/5/4. The rest of my information is below:
Major: B.S. Biology
GPA: 3.12
ASTB: (50) 5/6/6
PRT: 285
COs Rank: Cannot confirm but would estimate upper quarter or higher.
Thanks to anyone who can shed any advice!

Howdy everyone! Prior service Air Force here. Took the ASTB for the third time and lowered my score to a 45 4/5/4... Just looking to see if anyone is getting picked up for Pilot or SWO with numbers in this range. My GPA was a 3.325 in Forestry and Ecological restoration at Texas A&M. I also have letters of recommendation from 1 O-6 1 O-5, 1 O-4, and 4 O-3's and 1 E-8. Thank you for your time!
