12 JUN 17 IWC Board

Unfortunately some of the worst info we have seen here and in recruiting comes from peoples commands because they go with what they believe, not what the board has selected and that has led many an applicant down a road of non-selection and delaying them getting a commission.

The board looks at degrees and GPA's first and foremost, NEC's are great for enlisted but they don't matter as an officer, they also don't care about how you did on advancement exams. I am not surprised you did that well given you GPA, you know how to study.

While the USN may have said your degree is technical that isn't what the boards define it by, unless it has calc and calc based physics it doesn't help, I had a Business Management major or something close to that get CW, but he had over a year of calc and physics in his background.

Your OAR is fine, your OAR doesn't get you selected.

I get you want to stay in your field, and that you would feel IP would be a another good option, but board statistics don't lie, those that have a non tech degree (no calc and physics) have either no selections for those designators or low selections, and a low selection when the overall selection rate is less than 10% isn't good.

I would also consider the fact that if you get a no you will need to redo your entire application, I would strongly encourage you to go for INTEL if you want to stay in IWC @RUFiO181 may have further insights from the most recent board.

Call my dumb but, I am still going to give CW a shot, I don't think I could forgive myself if I didn't at least try once. That being said I also don't have much choice my interviews for the IWC were all 1810's. Maybe I will get lucky, maybe I will have to re-apply. Correct me if I am wrong but, doesn't the board take experience into consideration as well? I also read some where on here that the reason priors don't always get selected is because they tend to to have lower test scores and GPA's, but my scores I am told are competitive.

That being said I really appreciate you taking the time and caring enough to reach out to me. You guys do a lot for this community and it is really appreciated. You may have convinced me to try for IP or SWO-IP instead of SWO-CW. I was looking at the statistics I found on the PERS-472 facebook page and they seem to be a little less competitive then SWO-CW

If your interviews are 1810 you are kind of set as to what you can go for.

Yes, often they have lower GPA's, and that is key for many designators, but IWC is a bit different, they have a 60/40 tech/non tech split for selections, so IWC tends to use up those 40% selections on Intel.

While experience does count the board is limited due to the split, that is why I encouraged you to go for Intel.

SWO-IP and SWO-CW have so few spots it really isn't worth it to apply unless you are not going to apply for SWO, in that case try SWO-CW, IP and SWO IP have less spots overall then CW sometimes they have no spots on a board at all.

Got it that is really excellent advice. Thank you again for your insight and your guidance. I will take what you say to heart and apply it to my package. I meet with my CO tomorrow for my last signature and then my package will be sent out the same day.

If you are a N this time around I would bet next time if you went for SWO you would get it.

I think that may be the plan depending on how it goes. I will stay cautiously optimistic as I always do. Who knows if I end up SWO I may love it or I may shoot for a Lat Transfer down the road. That or maybe my luck will hold and I will get to stay a Crypto. Either way the goal is butter bars on my collar!

Checking in for this board. Finishing my interviews this week and next, then wrap up with the CO on the 5th of May. Intel is my 2nd option, I only get one shot at NFO before I'm too old!

Thank you!

Hey Anuj, check out previous board threads where everyone has their stats and whether they were selected. That will give you a good idea.

Can you post a link to this thread?

I can do that.

This is the most up to date one posted in the Gouge thread. I left out a few things that have changed since the update. Apologies in advance for the monotone everyone. I also tried to find a good clip of Anchors Aweigh that included the stanzas added in the revision of the song, so I recorded what I could find with the 3rd stanza.

Wow, I guess the first recruiter I talked to lied to me. I was told I had to be discharged from the army before I could submit my navy ocs packet

yes he did

I know you and radio always say iwclooks for STEM degrees but I have BAAS(bachelor's of arts/ applied science) business occupations. I took pre-calc, calc and physics between community college and 4 year university. Would the board count that as STEM?
