There are OCS classes for September 17, October 8, October 29, November 19, and December 10 before the year is out. I'm sure we'll make it in eventually. I can run and do crunches without any trouble, but the dang pushups are a pain. They are the reason I might get rolled into H class. I'm doing well with Appendix B. Weight is also good, right in between my maximum and minimum weight. October 29 sure has a nice ring to it.

Still no update about my FINSEL. Anyone else? Looks like an October-Decemberish class date may be on the card for us SWOs? How is everyone's PT coming?

PT is coming, but to be honest it is SO HARD for me to really really grind when the OCS thing doesn't seem real. I'm running and doing strength training, but still need some work. I have appendix B on lock. That's been the easy part for me..

Dude I totally feel the whole "is this real thing." But, the important thing is that you're doing the PT because like most of us on this forum, you want to be Naval Officer, which in turn makes you a forward thinking person. Keep up the PT, day after day, and then one day you, and hopefully all of us, will be at OCS...jacked out of our minds haha! I'm excited for this potential career ahead of me and all of the opportunities it will bring. Also, my brother said something funny the other day. "Just think about how OCS, purgatory, the application process will actually make up such a miniscule part of your naval career in several years. Then, think about how many people have gone through that." It kind of made me feel better.

Any October/November class would be great for me! But being stationed in Guam with a family I'm a little nervous with how "last minute" these orders are coming out. My wife has already been packing up the house just in case we got to try to roll out kind of fast.

What's your push up max looking like?

Ah, ok, fair enough. Here's hoping you get an October date. I'm solid on the running and crunches, but push-ups shall forever be the bane of my PT. I've been studying Spanish more than Appendix B lately...should probably get on that haha! I kind of wish we did pull-ups. For some reason I can score a perfect on marine PT pull-ups, but I struggle HARD with getting over 55ish push-ups.

Yeah I wish we did pull-ups too! My recruiter's LT also went through OCS and he said there won't be any time or energy to work out on your own so I kind of want to challenge that statement and see if I can make time to at least work out my back muscles.

I remember reading an article a while ago about a push-up regimen that actually worked for me when I tried it. It's a 10-day workout with two alternating routines. First you set a goal number. On odd days, you do this number of pushups as fast as possible, but you can take short breaks like for a minute or so. On even days, you reach your goal number as well, but you can do your pushups incrementally throughout the day. If your max is around 50, I think 100 is the recommended goal and if your max is closer to 100, 200 is the recommended goal. Whatever your max is, set your goal number to a little over double your max. My max increased by 10 after I tried this.

I can relate. I don't have a family of my own, but it's hard to schedule events with family and friends, especially because my OCS date is supposed to be in October. I don't know which October date it is so I just have to try to take care of everything by the end of September.

I will definitely give this a try, thanks for the workout!

Your brother sounds like a pretty smart dude, that's a good point! I wish we were all in the same area and could work out together or something, haha. I already feel like you guys are in my OCS class! I know it might not happen like that, but still....

On another note, I had a few questions for my recruiter and thought I would share with y'all...seeing as we're all biting our nails and waiting so anxiously for any information regarding dates/finsels. Thought you guys might find it interesting...

Q. I saw a post on Air Warriors that said there's a backup for SWOs in general, and those of us from the May SWO Board can expect to go to OCS "November-ish". Do you know if there's any truth in that?
A. That would be the first I have heard of it. A lot of stuff on websites like air warriors are rumors and can't be creditable. However, if it's someone that is in the know than they could be correct and we (recruiters) may not have received word yet.

Q. I also noticed some of the applicants from the SWO Board in March are still waiting on OCS dates. Any insight on the delay for those applicants?
A. The priority is Pilot/NFO right now, I assume this will continue to be the push for a while.

Q. Do test scores or rankings among other applicants chosen have anything to do with the order in which people are sent to OCS?
A. No, it is all based on availability.

Q. Are OCS classes usually made up of applicants all from the same designator? Or does it consist of a certain number of applicants for each designator?
A. It is a mix of every possible job that the navy has to offer. One person across from you might be a SWO while the one next to you is a pilot or a SEAL.

I know some of that information is kind of old news, but it made me feel better just to get a few legitimate answers. Still no update on my FINSEL though...I also wanted to ask if you guys all have the Survivor's Guide to OCS? If not, let me know! I will send it to you! It has a ton of valuable information and is extremely helpful. We're all in this thing together, so my resources are your resources. Seriously, just @ me! :)

I wish I had your recruiter. Mine is Jon Snow.

Push-ups: 35 tops if I'm really pushing myself.
Run time: around 11:25
Curl-ups: around 60

I do all three exercises in 2 minutes with 5 minutes in between

I recommend the 10 day routine mentioned above after you test your max, but don't cheat on any day.. do the full ten days. Also, get used to doing sets of push ups and not stopping when you're tired. When you're tired, pause in the resting push up position, wait a few seconds, and then keep going. If you stop whenever you feel burnt out, your nervous system is going to get into a bad habit of giving up when you're exhausted. Practice holding a push up plank for 3-4 minutes. You'll get there.
