15 SEP2025 SNA/SNFO BOARD

I have 4. A lifelong friend who’s former active duty now Marine reservist E6. A former active duty army Blackhawk crew chief now Air Force reservist E5, former civilian job requiring Yankee white clearance, a former coworker who I worked on several projects with, and a congressman. I am also prepared to reach out to current coworkers as they’re mostly aware of my aspirations. I got I-SEL scores but my thoughts are hoping more that they help in waiver approval
Congressman LOR has huge weight. Kudos to that.

I suspect he was talking specifically about aviation and that is correct.

The board is interested in your academic background and potential to get through flight school for SNA/SNFO.

How a person feels about you has no bearing on your aptitude for aviation that is why they don't read them. If you are talking about IWC, CEC, or Supply then yes they will and they want ones from those that have supervised you. Ones from family, friends, or people that haven't know you in a professional setting for say a year are not worth anything.

If his recruiter is speaking about aviation then his recruiter is 100% right if the person has no non-medical waivers.

They take like maybe a minute for each application.

If you have a waiver you are ineligible for I-SEL, if the waiver is medical they only review info from medical professionals. Depending on the non-medical waiver issue they may review them.
Gotcha. Thank you the insight

Hey dudes, I figured I'd just lay it all out since I will not be doing BDCP and going up for regular boards.

Looking for comparisons and opinions on what my chances are. Recruiter told me "you are fine" but at the same time said "average chance"

Here's my package:
ASTB: 40 5/7/5 (2nd attempt)

GPA: Current is 3.2, Cumulative is 2.52

Majoring in Aero Sci - Fixed Wing.
Minor: Air Traffic Control.

PPL rated 195 hours and about to get my instrument.

Working a part time job as a water safety instructer. Also tons of volunteer service hours.

I have 3 LORs
1 from my instructor (Flight experience)
1 from my Boss (Work ethic)
1 from an active duty Colonel (Character)

Resume was also sent to give more information. Essentially im trying to out weigh my GPA.

There it is...have at it lol.

How frequent are boards usually? Obviously I can see the board schedule, but is there actually a high chance that July 2026 is really the last one next year? Just asking here cause I don't know where else to.

You miss 100% of the shots you dont take. Send it in to this next board and see what happens. If they say no, it might be worth studying up to get those ASTB scores up to the 7/7/7 range to outweigh the lower GPA. From what the ex-recruiters on here have been saying - the board doesnt seem to care much about LOR's and flight experience. Good luck!

Hey y'all, just took the ASTB yesterday. I'm so glad it's finally past me after weeks of studying. Here's the package I'll be submitting for SNA

ASTB: 64 9/9/9
GPA: 3.78
Major: Air Transport Administration
Minor: Logistics and Supply Chain Management

I'm still in school, so I will be applying through the BDC Program. I only have 8 hours of flight time, but I've already knocked out my written test for PPL, so studying for the ANIT wasn't too bad. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

How do LOR’s work? My recruiter said that the committee doesn’t take into account or even accept LOR’s but everywhere else i see otherwise?

Yes, they are seldomly read in Aviation boards. If you are hoping LORs can help your application and not your ASTB score... well, I've got some news for you.
